About landing at the Escourt Shell Ultra City. The way I understand it, the land is private and therefore if you have permission from the owner (Manager) to land on it, you can. The owner must be contacted before you land and he has never said NO. He likes it, because it attracts attention and therefore business. He aslo sells fuel to the pilots. Other fuel stations are not used in this way because they do not have a suitable strech which could be used as a runway.

Right of Admission Reserved. ^
Paul, i will definitely make a plan one way or the other... the last braai I was at was too long ago, and I found the tailwinds guys to be a really awesome bunch of people...

Chaps, there is indeed a case iro the landing at the Shell Ultra City and personally this is going to have to be addressed as it seems a very similar process as Bundy has indicated has been followed by CAA Enforcement.

Just as a matter of interest, I sent a communication to Enforcement requesting some stats as to how many case were active, in process and resolved. I was acting chairman at the time of the request and wanted some additional "sensitive info" for the eyes of the EXCO. Needless to say, I was blown off with a non answer and certain persons were called and informed of their (CAA Enforcement) irritation of my request.

It is clear that either they are a law unto their own and answer to no one!!! This really needs to change. The ARO & RAASA needs to be an integral part of the disciplinary and enforcement process. With that we need to get legal representatives on the committee of MISASA so that this "fight" can be taken to them. This been said, I do not mean by this that we as ARO will ever condone illegal activities or contravening of ANR's. It would be that our members are treated justly and appropriately and not thrown to the dogs because of some misguided interpretation of the law.

Please note that this is me John B speaking in a personal capacity and am curious what kind of support we would be able to amass for the task at hand....

Your route from Volksrust will pass close to my strip at Grootdraai Dam, Standerton. Welcome to land if in need of assistance or a cup of coffee.

See info on Newcastle airfield posted by Bennie Voster on airfields and destinations. This will help when flying to Volkrust from Battlefields. Clear the mountains before Volkrust (Majuba) at at least 7500vt (odds)8500vt(evens). Try to follow the valley to the right (east) of the Majuba pass, intimidating but less so than over the mountains.

As an alternative route so that you do not have pass over large mountains or massive valleys

Straight up the coast from Margate until you reach Umkomaas

Turn inland keeping the Umkomaas river/valley on your left, you will be NE of the river

Set course for Richmond and once overhead set course for Howick or better still Eva's Field which is close by

There are no facilities at Howick so pop in to us for fuel, coffee or even a meal if you need it! (^^) (^^)

This routing takes you on NW boundry of the Pietermaritzburg CTR avoiding controlled airspace

Route Eva's Field to Ladysmith, avoid Estcourt as there is nothing left after the locals have pillaged the airfield ##

Really friendly bunch of guys at Ladysmith (^^) (^^)

Then route Ladysmith, Volksrust, Standerton Gauteng (!!) (!!)

James,

Will definitely make a turn there... If you have some hangar space for a trike, I would be keen on more than just visiting... The strip closest to Hebron is a crop spraying strip with no hangarage...

Will definitely be in touch...

Cheers

Craig

We’ll communicate before you are here in the Midlands for a spot in the hangar

I always keep a space open for a visiting aircraft that may have been stuck due to weather or accommodation for short term visitors to our field; you will be amazed how many people get caught out when the weather suddenly closes in or changes very rapidly
Not just the lighter types like we fly but we have had some fairly big aircraft pull in!

The only problem is that our hangars are configured for 3 axis and don’t have the height for a king post so you will have to drop the wing or de-rig to get in the doors

Yes, the crop spraying field near the Hebron Haven does not have hangarage for aircraft besides their own, it is also very private and for their exclusive use only. If you have seen it from the air or ground you will know why!!!!!

Howick is another option and is close to where you will be staying, not too sure whether there may be a space available and how good the security is anymore, sadly the townships are getting closer by the minute.
It was this threat that prompted us 11 years ago to move and set up our own place

Hope to see you in December

James,

I will definitely visit, will make contact closer to the time... Will be getting there on the 15th... if the WX is bad I will trailer... that is the planning for the whole trip...

The crop spraying guys near Hebron are known to my cousin who's farm I will be staying at... they are quite a festive bunch at the pub at hebron on a thursday night...

If you are involved in polocrosse, or chicken farming, you may well know my cousin... his name is also Craig...

Cheers
