Hi Guys, the weather looks good according to Windguru so I'll be flying through tomorrow morning sparrow and drive through Thursday afternoon for the flight briefing and park in Alan's hangar for the weekend. Jaco has kindly offered to put me up for the night which will greatly reduce the last minute.com scenario for Friday morning otherwise. Thanks for all the help so far from the ML crowd. Looking fwd. to it .

Nice one Louis, the weather does look favourable in PTA this morning, good luck and fly safe. (^^)

Just ask Fanie or Merv at Skyriders to open the hanger for you. Johannes should also be around to give you a hand. If you sukkel, give me a shout, I'll tell you where the codes are to the locks. 8)

Louis as I'm sure you guys know by now is one of my wingmen for the TRO next year. I'm really glad he is joining us to Elands as it give us the chance to see how our trikes fly together. On such a long overland trip planned next year, we need to get the speeds right. Louis should be a little faster...question is how much?

Last night I plotted our intended route to elands on transparencies, must just jot down the flight notes and frequencies. GPS will be used when you hear "Uhm....this is DBP....where the hell are we guys?"

I nominate Paul to lead our Samoosa Squadron (^^)

Morning Guys. (^^) Great that Louis is definitely in (^^) and...Al, the WX is looking better and better vhpy Positive...positive...positive thoughts^

From my calculations using mapsource and vfrplanner, for the direct route,...radio wise...we report on SRA East 125.4Mhz until 25 miles out, crossing R513, then FAD128, Pta FTA 124.4Mhz (Afsaal AF, overfly & report 124.4Mhz). 47miles out change to Country, 124.8Mhz. Elands...80miles out, report on country. puff

Compass heading including W17.7 deg variance .....direct route 54 deg mag. Via Loskop & Groblersdal..77 deg, 21 deg, 319 deg. Back, direct 232 deg. Via Rust de Winter and JAG, 268 deg, 190 deg, 218 deg ML. puff

I prefer using my GPS. Even if visibility is low, I can still see my GPS. They are also very very reliable especially the aviation units. They comply to military spec...even for gamma and beta ray penetration which is an issue when you fly at 50 000ft...haven't tried that yet   . Will load all the routes on Thursday. ($$)

Starting to look good for this weekend. Just done calcs for route via Loskop and Groblersdal and with 4 knot N wind switching to easterly at Loskop we will have 136min flying time and 34l fuel at 15l per hour. This assumes an airspeed of 43knots (49.5mph, 79.6kmh). So should be no problem even allowing for pee stop at Groblersdal. As you can see I don't have enough to do at work .

Hi Frank, as you can see, things are winding down here too.puff

Given  the WX we will comfortably route via Loskop and Groblersdal on one tank (55 ltr).... Dist = 92 nm, TAS = 45 kts, Time = 2 h 11, 33.0 ltr @ 15 ltr/h. ($$) ($$)

Direct. Dist = 74 nm, Time = 1 h 47, fuel = 26.7 ltr...half tank left puff puff

Cheers Paul.

I enjoy reading this thread.!!
Skakel my vroeg oggend , so 5 uur se kant, by die plaas en ek vertel jou hoe die weer daar lyk. As die weer k@k lyk en die wind waai dan gaan ek jou se.
O8255 nege6115
Lets have a great weekend..
