On a long haul flight from South Africa to the UK , the air hostess mentioned to the captain that there was a veteran pilot on the flight who served in Northern Africa during WW2. She said the gentleman asked if he could see the front-end of the plane. The captain then invited the gentleman into the cockpit. After a while the captain was so intrigued by the stories the gentleman told them, that he asked if he would mind sharing it with the other passengers.

The captain then made an announcement on the intercom: “Ladies and gentleman, I am privileged to introduce Mr Koos Van Der Merwe to you. He was a pilot in Northern Africa during WW2. I have asked Oom Koos to share one or two stories of what he experience during the war.”

Oom Koos then started: “I was on patrol over the desert in North Africa one morning. I was flying for about 30 minutes when suddenly two Fokkers dived from behind the clouds to my left.

The captain quickly intervened by saying: “Ladies and gentleman, just an explanation - a Fokker is an airplane that was used by the enemies during WW2.”

“NO!” Oom Koos interrupted him, “the fokkers where flying in Messerschmitt’s!”
