Objective: Be together and share

The success of the MISASA hosted Tederfield event in 2012 took us all pleasantly by surprise. Taken as a whole the event was well planned and executed by the many that contributed and it gave everybody, the “Oshkosh” feeling of shared excitement and belonging. It was a day for hangar talk and well being that only aviators surrounded by aircraft can really appreciate.

The huge and positive response from the aviation fraternity showed us that there is a desperate need for such an event where everybody can get together and share ideas. The fact that it was not an airshow open to the public contributed to the camaraderie of the day. We did learn some lessons and we hope that 2013 will be bigger and better in that it will host more aviators - from model planes to the max that the runway will permit.

We will demarcate space to suit the needs of all and where/when possible all will be together so as to share the passions of each specialisation.

Tederfield is an event for all Aviators, big and small, where everybody, even the pilot with the smallest and least significant of aircraft, can stand proudly amongst their peers.

Continuous Improvement: Please do focus on what is needed and forget the piggery of "who did what"

I posted the following on the MISASA website after the last event. Please do be critical and in addition add to a wishlist that you task the committee (that I invite you to join) to implement.
Tedderfield - Lessons for next year
> The DIY Catering went down well but after breakfast and lunch, on an (eat as much as you like) load a roll deal the provisioning can be cut back.
Next year we have arranged for the catering to be done by a professional catering company who will be positioned in the "Tedderfield Club House."
>> We had cleaners clearing the rubbish but it would have been easier to have had more bins.
>>> Smoking - there need to be no smoking signs in the aircraft areas.
>>>> Mmm... pilot event by pilots for pilots thus no crowd line but there needs to be a clear cut line for "Engines Off" to be required.

Tedderfield Project
The idea is to execute a project that all types of aviators can lend a hand to. Something that crosses the boundries (that exist in the big smoke - they do not exist in the small towns). The following is the opening suggestion.

You may recall the Special Innovation Feather Award to Matthew Stubbs for his trike like undercarriage attached to a hang glider wing. Can we take this concept - make it lighter - make it more affordable - make it more transportable - make it safer - make it more fun etc? Should it be powered by a Cisco Snap 100 cc engine generating about 17 brake horse power? What have the Paragliders to say? The Modellers? The Hang Gliders? You? and all the rest?

Award Categories

2013 will again offer special awards and standard category awards to those that win the shootout for each category. For those that are new to the shootout - all those present get to vote for the best in each category and for the overall best of the best. Category winners get a trophy and the "Best of the Best" winner gets the back page of the mag for the year.

Special Feather Awards:
- An award for the best display.
- An award for the most innovative aircraft on display.
- An award for the lightest manned aircraft on display.

The "Standard" Feather Award shootout categories have been expanded to be as follows:
- Flight Simulation: Under R1,000 and climbing by R1,000 for each successive category
- Ready Built Unmanned Aircraft: Under R1,000 and climbing by R10,000 for each successive category
- Ready Built Unmanned Aircraft Kits: Under R1,000 and climbing by R10,000 for each successive category
- Manned Aircraft: Under R100,000 and climbing by R100,000 for each successive category
- Manned Aircraft Kits: Under R100,000 and climbing by R100,000 for each successive category

Please do suggest further awards and above all please do volunteer and have your say.
