Flying suit in the lowveld??

Hi Guys,

How warm are these cotton flying suits, like say the airwear one or the icarus aerobatics/general flying types? The reason I ask is down here in the slowveld, during winter its cold at sunrise, but by 9 o'clock its warm. So dont really want to get a microlighting suit as I think this will be too hot. Maybe cotton suit with some pants underneath for the very cold mornings? This way, will the suit be okay for summer use (18-26°C) or too hot?

Its just annoying to fly in normal clothes as my neck gets slapped blood red by my collar, and besides a colour coded suit to match my trike can look quite nice, and there's a pair of harley davidson boots I must have which will look corny with shorts!!

I bought mine in 2001 from Icarus Airwear and can highly recommend it. (Back then it cost only R 392.00 !). Very strong material and a comfy thin lining inside. It will easily last another 11 years, if not longer.

It is tailor made to fit your size and you select your own colour scheme. Zips along the legs and arms if it becomes hot.

I think it will be a lot more suitable for the Lowveld than some of these black boiler room type flying suites.

Inflation, thy heartless witch - I paid just over R2K for mine earlier this year. But I agree with you, great product and I've been very happy with it. I did most of my training during the winter months and a trick from my instructor on those really cold mornings is to wear a oilskin type jacket over your flight suit for extra protection. It leaves you with lots of freedom to move about but it's windproof so you're always warm.

So my 2c Gav, you'll be happy 90% of the time in a cotton suit and you can add a layer or two on a really cold morning.

I also got the icarus thermal -20 or something nogal in 2005 and it is still in perfect nick. Trek maar net koel klere onder aan as dit warm raak.

Jinne stefan ja kyk, jou warm daar in komati is heel anders as enige ander soort warm!! Dink ek sal eerder die cotton ene vat ek net klere onderaan trek!
