.....its got to do with the law! Microlights are aeroplanes that may not exceed 450 Kg MAUW. Period!

Vatso, you need a lesson in air law :-) I will teach you on Saturday morning.

Not all microlights have a mauw of 450kg.
Some of the single seaters have a mauw of less than 400kg.

Thanks for correcting me Bob, 100% right Sir :) I think you get my point though in this regard 8)

All about safety at the end of the day. Everyone likes to see someones dream of flight come true but pushing boundaries to achieve it will never be advisable. Some pilots have challenged the MAUW limits....very few have survived to learn from their mistake.

LOL Yes I was told I needed some new lessons.

I think my point is not what the rules say but rather what the machine is really capable?? I do not believe all trikes have exactly the same MAUW & this is a totally technical discussion not a legal one.

If a trike has a bigger wing with more power surely it can lift more....

But I never not follow the rules!!!! flying is safe as long as you follow the rules they are there to save life's.

Hi,

If you knowingly or unknowingly exceed MAUW and things go pear shaped, the consequences would be enormous. (**)

Thatch said 110Kgs per seat for GT450 - correct.

Tumbles talks about short seat belts - correct - they won't get around a XXXXL pax.

Saw a person abort a take-off in his 582 Cheetah - pax. too big. He casually asks me if I could take this XXXXL pax. I told him to go and commit an impossible sex act.

Fly safe - stay inside the envelope.

Regards
John

Also - if you like loading up your trike with all kinds of extra fuel, tents, sleeping bags, survival supplies, etc - make sure you WEIGHT EVERYTHING! Volume is not a problem if you are a bit creative - but weight can become one, quickly!

No man. MAUW of 450kgs means just that. Doesn't matter what weight is per seat!!

as per there gt450 website: Seat Load 110kgs

I'm sure its due to the design of the seats /seat fixings so they don't break on hard landings etc.
