No drinking within 15 metres of an aircraft and no smoking 8 hours before a flight.

Perhaps should look at it as a (backhanded) compliment. AP does sponsor the Airshow of the year award, and not sure what category of event Tedderfield was, but these are some of the safety criteria they consider when judging for the award. The fact that you may view them as not being too serious could be taken up that then the show went pretty well and no significant safety faults found.

Spot on Dave... and if we threw Alan Mac & Donald in there, we have the makings of a new Springbok front row... albeit on paper (^^)

Rog... if we had to plan the "shootout" as a LSA/MICROLIGHT Airshow... let me tell you, we'll give the big guns a serious run for their money!

The EXPO(sure) for suppliers was the key here and let me tell you, done and dusted in a little over 3-4 weeks - NOT TOO SHABBY!

I am sure the safety pointers will be taken to heart and we can only improve on what was achieved. Think about it, I was offered fly-pasts by seasoned pilots and I declined because it never fell within what we planned. Next year, I am calling in the offers and a proper aerial display will be offered to those that take the trouble of attending it!

Well... bar the two complaints which could have been addressed in a different fashion I suppose - but our shoulders are much broader than that I'm sure. (^^)

Please allow me to set the record straight. The comments did not stem from African Pilot - they just passed a toned down version of the message on. This matter has definitely not been well received by many microlighters - I suspect that the envy in some is like the proverbial "one too many" - it ensures that darts are never on target!

A very well know icon in aviation circles sent an e-mail to ? that then got resent in viral fashion to everybody!

The tone of the e-mail note and the manner in which these very valid points were made was nothing but a bad reflection upon the writer. He needs to take care in suggesting sound advise in a sweeping derogatory manner. Many picked up on the points including African Pilot in their newsletter. Athol did consult me on the newsletter before he sent it and I told him that the points were valid but ill advised for they needed to be made in a more constructive forum. He has always been supportive of microlighting and is a good friend to us all.

As Editor of your magazine I have commented on this matter and it can be seen on page 23 of the March Edition.

" There are a couple of aviation doyens who sought to find fault in their reported findings in a most unnecessary and bitter tone. Sure, we learnt some lessons and we sure will improve. As an association, we are committed to hosting an annual all comers day for anybody that flies anything and we will offer all those that wish one a "soap box" to share their "grins & growls!

Our success was your success for we all enjoyed the contributions of others and the synergy created was truly awesome. Well done to all."

The mag takes some weeks to get printed and distributed but for an early preview the complete pre-print draft is to be found on the http://www.misasa.co.za website. All you need is a bit of spare bandwidth!

Alanmack, I cannot help to agree with you.
The Tedderfield event was a stunning success!! (^^)
Thank you to ALL who organised the event. Yes, we can always improve on safety issues and gladly we are all willing to learn. I know that I can speak for a lot of pilots who attended this event and we all agree that it was an absolute success despite a few very minor incidents (of which we were blissfully unaware).
To those who did/could not attend - you missed out!
We are looking forward to the next one.
