“You did what?!” – Understanding the role of Human Factors in Aviation Safety

The aviation industry has long had safety as its top priority and its efforts to achieve safe flight has increasingly come to focus on the field of Human Factors, a cross-disciplinary field that has helped the industry appreciate the non-technical aspects of safety. Especially efforts to understand, rather than judge, the influence of human error in incidents and accidents has led to a deeper understanding of human behaviour on the flight deck and emphasised the continued need for Crew Resource Management (CRM) training for pilots. In this presentation Dr Dahlstrom will provide some perspective on aviation safety as well as an overview of the role of Human Factors and CRM in the aviation industry.

Dr Nicklas Dahlstrom, is a Human Factors Manager at Emirates Airlines and an instructor and researcher at Lund University School of Aviation in Sweden. He has delivered Human Factors and CRM training in more than a dozen countries, presented at international conferences and published scientific articles, reports and book chapters. Among the topics of his publications are mental workload, simulation, decision making, leadership and culture. Dr Dahlstrom has been with Emirates for four years and this recent experience includes working with Human Factor and CRM with pilots from more than 100 different countries in a rapidly expanding airline.

As a microlight pilot and very new gyro pilot, I would like to mention that this presentation applies to us as well - it will really get you thinking about your flying and I hope it will enhance your flying.

I need as much support on this one as possible, look forward to seeing you there.
