124.8 back to 124.2 Durban

Postby zucac » Mon Nov 22, 2010 1:33 pm

On Sat 20 Nov. I flew from Ballito to Isithebe, boy was that raido busy. 1 in 3 were double transmissions ,we can hear
South Coast ,Natal midlands and Hluhluwe chatter. there was no idel chatter but just very busy, to the extent that you missed your call ( down wind etc etc )

IESH I think we have made a mistake by droping 124.2

maybe it will be better if FAVG 120.6 extends to Coopers light house ,then 124.8 south.

124.8 Durban

Postby John Young » Sun Dec 26, 2010 7:22 am

Hi Brett,

To a large extent, some pilots compound the issue with utter drivel ....

1. "Traffic on 124.8 ...." Flip - that is nearly the whole of KZN.

2. "Any conflicting traffic please advise ..." What does the pilot expect conflicting traffic to do?

3. Four calls in an empty circuit.

4. "Traffic on 124.8 at the ... er er ... the South Coast ..... we are XXX .... er er er ... a Robbie 44 about ... er er ... 30 miles north of .... er er ... Margate routing ....er er ... to Margate and ... er er .... expect to be ... er er .... near Margate ... er er ..... at approximately .. er er ... 09h24 Zulu ... we are flying ... er er ... at 1000 feet with an ... er er ... QNH of ... er er ... 1019 routing ... er er ... south .... er er ... slightly inland of the ... er er ... coast .... any conflicting ... er er ... please advise and call ... er er .... XXX"

5. "Jimmy where you?" "I am here." "Where's that?" "By the cloud." "Which cloud, the big one?" "Yes." "Which side of the cloud?" "This side." ($$) ($$)

I have started approaching "offenders" in a gentle manner and so far have had a positive response.

Instructors have an important role to play.

Kind regards

124.8 Durban

Postby John Young » Sun Dec 26, 2010 10:15 am

Hi,

Thank you Vernon and to you and yours as well. (^^)

Munster is in the plans. !!!!

People who are approached in a gentle manner normally respond that way too. By playing the ball and not the man things don't get personal.

We all know that 124.8 is cluttered so let's keep calls short, appropriate and to the point.

Hi John

Compliments of the season to you. I'm glad it's not just here in the Western Cape that we have the same woffle on the radio. Short, sweet and to the point is all that's asked.
I sometimes get confused............But i'm not sure

124.8 Durban

Hi,

Thanks Ranger - to you and yours too. !!!!

Ja, this utter drivel that we hear - sounds like it's national. Even ATC who monitor 124.8 agree.

Hi John
I think our raido,s transmit to far, maybe if we all had handhald raido,s with stub aerial,s it will be ok.
But yes we do dribel to much and only half as much as our instructers tought us [5 Km out ,over head ,left hand down wind ,
etc etc] so that is why we have 124.2 .
why they stoped it I do not know?
