Hi
Could any one possibly help me with some information please.
I am the former CFI and General Manager of the Algarve Airsports Centre, a UK CAA/BMAA registered microlight flight school, in Portugal.
After much thought I have decided to look for a more challenging position involved with another school, I have started to look in Europe, but I recall a previous student we had, telling of the amazing flying available in South Africa, and I wondered if you could give me any advice on possibly considering looking for an work opportunity in your part of the world.
Any info you could give would be much appreciated.
Best regards
Phill Gilbert

Re: CFI opportunity in South Africa
Hi
Just had a chat with Dawie, very interesting, it would seem that my qualifications are equal to a "B" grade instructor (3 Axis) in South Africa, just need to find out what or if a visa is needed to work in SA for a year............any one know what the position is on that?

Quite a few hoops to jump through. Not impossible, but will require some patience. Have assisted two fixed wing instructors we employed at AFC a while back. The likes of adverts in national newspapers to 'prove' their are no SA based people to do the job etc.UKCFI wrote:Hi

We also have an opportunity in the Eastern Cape for someone to open a School doing part 62 licences.

We are a club based in Port Elizabeth - Eastern Cape. Used to have a fairly active school at Uitenhage airfield, but the owner closed up shop and is not really interested in re-establishing (he is getting on with other items of the female persuasion). Has indicated he would be available from time to time but does not want to do full time.
After that our next closest was Grahamstown. That owner (Larry on this forum) has gone on 'bike about' and will not be back for sometime. (Prob sometime in 2012. So now our nearest school is in East London - some 300+ kms away.
In order to continue growing the sport in the PE area and to service current pilots - we need a school. We have an open day (toys for boys type affair) planned later in the year, and a few other promotional events. Problem is we are getting to the point where we are creating demand - but no way of satisfying it.
The resources at Uitenhage are great - it is licenced, in the GF, and has 4 runways of approx 1000m each. Pic and other info here:

We have toyed with the idea of the club opening up a school and hiring in, but this is not always ideal. It would be preferable to have a standalone commercial operation.

Hi.
You are welcome to contact me with regard to a 4 year project.
I own and operate a private Sport Aviation Airfield and training school on the KZN North Coast.
My school is approved for LSA, CCM and WCM training.
Besides the training, we do coastal introductory flights on an almost daily basis for holiday makers and locals alike.
I also do Adventure Microlight Aero trekking Safari flights, as far afield as Kilimanjaro and Lake Malawi. Up to this point I have done these flights alone, but anticipate the need to shortly be able to offer 2 microlights per journey. I will obviously need a second pilot for these journeys.
I am also an inspector for Sport Aviation aircraft, and perform a lot of maintenance on trikes and 2 stroke motors etc.,
All in all, it's a great spot, a great job and a fantastic place to live and work, and I need help:)
I am not too concerned with bullshit. If our laws allow you to validate your instructors rating, I'll help you get it and to hell with the rest....
PM, cell , email or keep this thread alive:)
Regards.
