very helpful gent informed me that they altering the billing month to the there year-end month (March) hence the 3 month account.
Could not have been ICASA
Why not just pay the R48 and get it over with?
R12 or R48. Exactly my point. It is these burocrats' job to send renewals and invoices, or at least answer their phones and answer emails. It is because we do so many things just to "get it over with" that we have to put up with more and more shit.

Update: I eventually got through to someone who was going to get the right person to phone me. He then gave me the right person's cell phone number. If the right person has not phoned me by 02h00 tomorrow morning I might give him a call.

Call me difficult, even with a capital D. I would have thought that RAASA would acknowlege that ICASA is incompetent, and then either approach ICASA to explain the abovementioned situation and come up with a solution, or RAASA should have contact their masters at CAA to give them guidance. To say "send proof of payment" when the whole point is that it is impossible to find out from ICASA what I should pay gives is a typical staatsdiens mentaliteit.

If you fight you canwin without it, but it not worth it IMHO. Reg's still around which allows flight without a radio so in fact the fact that RAASA are forcing RSL is BS. I had the fight with CAA and won, but it takes more time than the R48 is worth.

What I do is pay 1 year in advance. Every year in when I rec my radio station license I pay R48 for the next year (going to do 2012 now) with my aerie reg as ref and every year I get a new license (they arrived last week). I don;t get invoice or statement or anything, but everyone is "happy" and the interest I loose on R48 is not with the KAK from ICASA, RAASA, CAA or the ramp inspector... That is my solution to their incompetence. I am still getting invoices for the Animals initial app fee even though I got 2009 and 2010 radio station licenses.....

If it was big bucks then I would fight, but for R48 ## ## ## ## I am simply not going to bother.....

Gert phone me i will try help you with the license problem. RAASA is only doing their job by "ticking boxes". they don't necessarily know how to get the radio license. 083 400 1405. ICASA is by far the worst government department to work with.

I have now had an email from Pierre Laubscher stating
As stated RAASA will not withhold your ATF based on the radio licence, I just wanted to make you aware of the legal requirement and possible consequences.
I will take my chances. To make a point I will keep all emails to the INCOMPETENT Communications Authority with my microlight, and eagerly await inspection.

Another sort of thread hijack. I'm sure the folks at RAASA do a fantastic job, but it is really a drag that the paper delivery system doesn't work. Postnet hasn't managed to deliver my ATF renewal application in 2.5 weeks. If the powers read it: SACAA accepted faxed documents, why can't RAASA please, please do the same or better: accept emails. It's fast, reliable, trackable, cheap and everyone else uses it today.

Last year I sent registered letter and that took 3 weeks to get to the RAASA offices, with the last leg taking the majority of the time.

To me great service is when I pop the docs in the post (or fax or email) and +/- 3 weeks later the result arrives without phoning, chasing and paying for courier.

Ok, forgive me, am just letting out steam.

Cheers,

V.

Brilliant service from RAASA, coupled with courier payments through postnet,(this is the only way to go if uoy want prompt delivery!)
Posted my documents on Monday afternoon fron Cape Town, checked with a very helpful lady (Stephina) on wednesday, she had my documents. received a copy via email on thursday, and had my ATF in my hands, delivered by courier at 10h30 on Friday morning. RAASA, great service!!!! xxx xxx xxx
Unfortunatley, if you want the service from our delivery system, (**) , you have to pay.

Regarrds,

Rusty
Rusty, but getting there.

Yeah, therein lies the problem. Call me stingy, but I don't want to pay R100 to Postnet for a small envelope to be delivered to Joburg, especially not, when I'm in no hurry. We're paying so many (partly unnecessary?!) fees as it is and money doesn't just grow on the trees. I knew that I wasn't going to fly much in Feb, got the annual done in time and gave the whole process 3 weeks: 1 week to get the papers to RAASA, 1 week for processing and 1 week for delivery back.

One question begs: there are instances where the proof of payment is accepted as the equivalent of the licence. Now, if I can show that my logbook and flight folio have been correctly stamped, I've paid all my dues and fees, including postage costs, then is it as good as having an ATF?! (Ok, I know the answer, but I just couldn't resist asking it.)

Cheers,

V.
