There used to be a website or something with how to get an authorisation number and file flight plans? Anybody know what it was or if it is still valid?

Just got this mail back from the SAAF regarding the April long weekend:

Dear Andre,

We already forward the application form for SSC to you earlier today. You do not need an SSC Code over period 27/04/10. Your SSC code that you will receive from us will be valid for 6 months, and you only need to apply for an FAC code closer to the world cup.

Many thanks.

I just spoke to the SAAF. Full exersize this weekend.

There is a game at Ellis Park at 16H00 local on friday and no fly within 5nm (beware out of Rand and Pano's, Tedderfield) before and after the game. if you flying anywhere in the 50nm around Ellispark for eg... you need all the BS. If outside the restricted areas, you don't need anything....
In order to establish some sort of “access control” for the airspace, the SAAF has applied the following principles:
Declaration of 50NM restricted airspace, designated as an Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ), around the events area.
Declaration of restricted airspace of approximately 5NM around the event venues.
Implementation of a security screening process for all aircrew.
Implementation of an authorisation process for each flight.
All aircraft operating inside the ADIZ must file flight plans.
All aircraft operating inside the ADIZ must be transponder equipped.
It is important to note at this point that the terms “aircraft” and “aircrew” also refer to gliders, paragliders, balloons, parachutes, etc, and their crews. Basically, if you want to operate a foot or two above the ground, you need to go through these processes!
Prior to the launching of the SWC, the SAAF will have one more major exercise, covering the whole of South Africa, in order to ensure that all the “i”s are dotted and the “t”s are crossed. This will take place over the period 23-26 April 2010. During this period the same security measures, as applicable to the SWC, will be applied, and all aircrew must ensure that they adhere to these arrangements. The SWC, which is scheduled for 11 June – 11 July, will then run just so much better once all have been practiced and everybody knows exactly what is expected of them, and what to expect.
I am told you will need SSC and FAC and flight plan, if you plan to operate 2ft or more off the ground. Circuits do not require a FP, but do require FAC and SSC. I flew extensively during the last 2 ex.'s and Cops (SAPS, and Border cops) check and get very grumpy if you don't have the required codes....
Flight Authorisation Application. Once you have received your SSC, you are cleared to continue to the next step, namely applying for authorisations for each flight. Every single flight (from first take-off to first landing) must receive an individual authorisation code. No codes can be carried over between flights or aircraft or aircrew. The process to follow is:
1.Pilots apply to the SAAF for authorisation for a flight, at least 24 hours before the planned flight. Applications can be done as follows:
a.By Telephone to 012 312 2625.
b.By fax to 012 312 2626.
c.By e-mail to flightautho@telkomsa.net
2.Application forms can be obtained from wtr@mweb.co.za, the SACAA website and ATNS website.
3.Once an application was submitted, it will be processed. If not successful, the SAAF will inform you immediately. If successful, you will receive a unique Flight Authorisation Code (FAC) for that specific flight.
4.The FAC must then be displayed on the flight plan, in Field 18, marked RMK/FAC
I am filing for the weekends flying just in case. I am too close to FAWK and FASK and it be too easy to scramble and make EG of me.....

Also spoke to SAAF over the weekend as my FAC request has been with them for a while.
Was told no flying within 15nm (sic) if you have no transponder and they had no clue if FABA was in/out the 15nm (sic) no-fly zone. (**)

Wish it was that easy

Got the SSC but the FAC is still outstanding after almost a week. Seems that there are different people approving different types.

Got the following from WO2 J. Tellie at "flightautho@telkomsa.net" :
All Non-transponder Equipped special concessions flights such as Micro lighters, Para Gliders need to be approved by Colonel Elma De Villiers at 012 3121745 before the FAC code can be issued, flights from 2 hrs before and 2 hrs after the game.

This was after the call I received from SAAF that there will be NO FLYING without a transponder within 15nm from Ellis Park.

And so we wait......

I have applied for SSC and will file FAC for the weekend. If flying from private airstrip to Aeroden, Cross-Winds etc (private air strips), do I still have to file a Flight Plan with ATNS?
If so, what info do you add at aerodrome as well as the aircrafdt type. I fly a raptor trike. The code Z149 does not work, so what other type should I enter on File2Fly. That is if I have to file a plan

Please tell me I do not need a flight plan for thesse flips. (**)
