I agree that that suit would be perfect and CAA must enforce that. I would just however ask exemption for the crotch belt. I would suggest that the crotch belts should only be compulsory with 912S motors. 582 and 503, crotch belt optional

Goffel thanks a lot for your effort. This has been long overdue and the question has been asked several times including to CAA without a clear answer. You are the first one that went to the trouble to resolve this and I think I owe you a beer or two. (^^)

I have to agree with Africa and others, look at the statistics, e.g. never heard of a fire on a trike and doubt that a first aid kit is going to save your life after a crash. Never heard of anybody in a microlight that died because the pilot did not carry water with him. There is surely a lot that you can carry with you incase something happens but look at the odds of what is useful. Surely a cell phone is more useful than any of the above mentioned.

I personally will not carry a fire extinguisher or first aid kit or water if I do not have to but if I fly over the Kalahari/Karoo I will take at least 4 liters of water and some food with me. Likewise I will make sure that there is at least 1 first aid kit in the group on a long trip.

While on the topic, why do you need to have all the papers with you if you have your pilot licence and ATF? The licence/ATF will not be issued if you did not send copies to CAA/RAASA. (Some like you medical I can understand because it might expire before the licence.)

No, it was not. It is a relevant question fired straight from the hip, and I would like an answer. ##

Eisch.....same book.....same page........Boet, dont worry, we only have one book here......sometime we all read it the right way up, then sometimes when we get bored, we turn the book upside down........depends which province we go to.

Seriously, I have had discussions with the other inspectors regarding the 1st Aid Kits, fire extinguishers and so forth and briefed them and yes, we all (should/hope), are on the same page.

I am sure that somewhere there will be a discrepency on something, but it will most definitely be sorted in an amicable way that suites all.

I have been asked to take over all Microlight etc Flight Operation queeries which I have accepted.....due to this, I would like to suggest that we start a forum called "Law Questions", where all queeries, questions can be asked and answered.......it would make it easier to answer questions from one forum than me going thru all the other forums looking for questions...(just a suggestion).

Thanks,
Chris B.

We have a forum for this very purpose

Misasa, Aero Club, CAA and legislative issues

viewforum.php?f=21

Let's use that and see how it works. I can move the current threads into there

Goffel, excellent reply, but why can we not, on THIS thread, from (your) Goffel's mouth hear where a 1.5kg Halon fire extinguisher is to be fit on my trike ?

Do we need a new section for a simple straight forward answer ?

The act is clear: "Cabin fire" !

DOES A TRIKE HAVE A CABIN ?

And once we have the 1.5kg issue sorted, let us then go straight on to the next issue and get a straight answer ! This thread started with basic questions needing basic answers. Surely we (I at least) do not belong to an intellectual hungry group of people needed to be side-tracked to a new thread again ?

Answer me please: Question number 1: Do I I need a fire extinguisher in a trke ?

If so: Where is it to be mounted without violating my ATF ?

Next question next week.

Kloot Piloot, when you get a fire on your trike just pull the bar in and it will blow the fire out!! (^^) (^^) (^^)

Guys,

Just listen to what Goffel is saying. He is here to help us all and he wants' to set it up that all queries are addressed to him. I think it is great that we finally have a man on the inside that can advise us.
Please support him, I have been in this for 16 years and it is great that he is there for us to advise etc.

My 5 cents(no more 2 cents)

Cheers,

Andy (^^) (^^) (^^)

Kloof pilot.......the answer is NO.....you do not need a fire extinguisher nor a 1st Aid kit....(I posted the answer on page 7).

But as I said on page 7, keep safety in mind.....me personally would carry a 1st aid kit.

In a 3 axis conventional, (such as a Jora, Bushbaby etc), I would most definitely carry both a fire extinguisher and a 1st aid kit.

The reason I asked for another forum,is so that I can answer questions from one forum and not have to go thru every forum to find questions.

Hope that answers.
