You can register your own choice. It costs you R2000 more.
There are howevere some limitations. For instance I wanted my new plane to be registered WWW, but ICAO standards now dictate no three letters the same.
As it is a gyro it has to start with R (standing for Rotorcraft)
Hi Old no 7,

Are you sure about the reg that must start with an R. The gyro I'm training on is reg as ZU-DYZ. No R there

Hi THI,
The R is probably a new RAASA regulation, but not sure. I'd also like to know as I have seen many gyros without an R anywhere. Louis Van Wyk's for instance is Charlie Victor Hotel

on7 is on his way to Barberton.

It has changed very recently. If a gyro changes ownership, or a new gyro, it is re-registered with a Rxx - or if you want to change it now. Jetranger and Condor has changed theirs already.

So, yes, if you want to go the personalsed way Rxx it will be.

Thanks for replying Leon,
Just back from Barbeton. Can't wait for Rudi'xs pics vhpy
Yes, rules changed late last year. All new gyros must be registered R??

You can reserve a number, but only for a period of 12 months and then it goes back in the pool.
