I have been looking to get myself a handheld radio. I have now just bought one from Cape Avionics.
While talking to Phil (The Cape Avionics guy) on the phone. He said to me that all radios in retail shops are going for simmilar prices to Comet Aviation.
I think that it is terrible that it is so expensive, but flying is an expensive sport and our Rand/$ isn't great.
I have spoken to Comet Aviation before about buying things and they have always been on the ball and I have the info within minutes! So well done to them for that! =D*
It would be interesting if a spreadsheet was drawn up, showing the prices of the other Aviation shops in SA.
Just my 2c,
Regards,
Ross
BTW: Be thankful we don't all fly certified aeries! All the switches even have to be certified, and a glass panel costs about 3 times as much as the MGL ones!

Hi Guys
Referring to earlier postings I think there are were/ are two issues
1 The huge prices as quoted on Internet price lists which are absolutely crazy and should be rctified easily.
2 The high prices of Rotax spares in general.
I have only had brilliant service from Niren and have no axe to grind with Comet or any other supplier. The real problem is a world wide problem with the pricing of Rotax and until we find/decide that another engine is what we want we will be discussing this till the cows come home round and round the mulberry bush. If you look back in this forum you will find this topic has been thrashed about since the forum was started under various postings.
Fortunately guys like Boet have put their money where their mouth is and are hopefully going to bring some people to their senses, otherwise the goose that is already laying less golden eggs will die!!!!!!! [Since I can Only afford to fly a trike and happen to love it, I wish some one would tryout the Suzuki engines as used in Canada, They appear to be fairly affordable and very reliable]
Regards

QUOTED PRICES FROM OFFSHORE DEALER

80 HP available in stock, 100 will take 75 days.

please advise if you need the engine with the following options:

1. Muffler (exhaust system).
2. Oil, Water radiator.
3.Flydat (instument to read engine data).

the 80HP with these options 10,900. Euros.
the 100HP with the above options 11,500 Euros.

Regads

Prices obtained from an offshore dealer of rotax - note that these prices MUST be inclusive of the company mark-up and shipping to detination. Import duty doesnt apply, so why the huge difference in cost????
Why can one of the local aircaft builders supply the same engine at about 80 000 less than local???
Surely that can only be local company mark-up??

I was wondering the same thing, was told about the much lower price some (factory/schools?) pay for the engine locally, from the local supplier, makes you wonder, also makes me

I recently had the same experience with an aircraft supplier. His price was €4000 more that the international price. When I confronted him he denied it…mmm

Is their pricing in anyway related to the development of the "Sling" or was that funded from elsewhere?

Wouldn't it be great to have a second authorised ROTAX importer / dealer in SA just to beef up the competition!

At the price quoted for the complete 912ULS I wouldn't hesitate upgrading my Cheetah with one! This could save me lots of moola than rather spend it on the develpment, tooling and changing the firewall forward.

I can understand Mike's failure to respond due to the awesome achievement with the Sling but maybe Niren should at least just say a word or two here!

I have always supported Aviation Engines and have received the best of service - but we have to be reminded that the economy is pressing! One of the main reasons why my aircraft is sitting in the hangar - grounded....

Heard via the grapevine that Fred Blockland was offered a brand new complete 912 uls @ R125 000 + R 2000 delivery after showing them another qoute of R 129 000 recieved from someone else.

This is a R100 000-00 discount. Can you imagine how many people would be flying if a 912uls cheetah or similar was priced at R100 000-00 less. These prices must surely be responsible for killing aviation.

Hope to recieve some sort of explanation from Mike or Nirren about this.
