Confed Cup - No fly ??

Postby Dish » Tue Jun 09, 2009 9:57 am

Morning lads,

please can we cut to the chase and get a definitive answer here. What are the flying restrictions that will be in place during the Confed cup?? Am i correct in saying No flying within 80kms of ANY stadium (regardless of whether there is a match at that stadium or not, or even the time of the game?) at all unless flight plan filed and transponder equipped?? So I cannot take off at aeroden and fly a few circuits between aviators and aeroden???

Stephan - Knowledable Guru ??? whats the verdict???

Hi Dish,

You are half-way there..... Restrictions are in force, whether there is a game on or not.

You are however allowed to fly. You get reference number from SAAF, file a flight plan and go fly. No need for transponder (as per email that Stephan got from SAAF lady)!

Colonel deVilliers - wtr@mweb.co.za

I just had a call from Authorisations office regarding this.

You have to apply for EVERY take-off and landing.

I understood that you get a number for the PERIOD from 13 to 28 June and then fill it in on your flightplan. I WAS WRONG.

According to the SAAF you need a DIFFERENT number for EVERY time you fly, even if it is around the patch.

Funny - All this fuss for hairdresserball while the cricket and rugby world cups were pretty much ignored and turned out uneventful by all accounts. Is this more evidence of govt paranoia?

Yeah while we all struggle to understand why only the soccer gets this kind of attention  we are going to be flying. Dish we plan on getting permission for a flight say 2 hours long with take-off and destination the same field. A touch and go isn't a landing so for an hour worth of circuit training you just file a single flight plan.
Nuts about Cheetahs. Petit is the place.

Just remember, if you cant beat them join them. If they want a flight plan for every touch and go, do it, because eventually they will realise what a load of Cr@p they are causing.

I mailed all my info for the long weekend (plenty flights with different planes), only to find out that I need to make a change due to technical problems with one plane, will be flying a different one now.

I wonder if I need to cancel the old one or just make a new one?

Fly safe,

Guy's, stop making a big issue - just email your spreadsheet and get an authorisation number. I know of a few guys who already have their auth's. I received a pleasant mail less than 12 hrs after applying to say that my ID number was not legible and could I please forward it again which I did today. I expect that I will have my auth tommorrow. Very painless. The original ruling was no flights without a transponder and they have since made an exception. Lets comply,If we dont next year for world cup we might not fly for 6 weeks. Comply or waai.
