I have asked in a few threads as to the status regarding year on year membership numbers.

Perhaps there has been a decrease in the numbers and this is the reason why the fees need to go up? Maybe also the cost of having a permanent employee has begun to catch up? (Increased overhead cost shared by less members)

Only speculation I am afraid which is not always good, but since there have been no official information regarding this, I guess that is all one can do.

Looked at my records - paid R695 for 2005. R855 for 2006 is a 23% increase. Bit more than inflation! The Aeroclub letter mentions a 5% increase in fees but the MISASA letter does not make mention of or give any explanation for a fee increase at all.

I was contemplating renewing after a gap of a few years.

Do we have to join both Aero Club and MISASA ? What are the annual dues for each ???

(methinks its gonna hurt)

I think it is time that we look for some other insurer that will give us third party insurance at a reasonable cost and then part with Misasa and the aeroclub. If the club can not give us a reasonable service at an affordable cost then what is the use to belong to it. The money eventuallly will end up in the big black hole same as we currently experience with CAA

Confirmed got mine yesterday! up 60%.

Now I do understand the need for an organisation to stand up for us, talk for us. We sit now with a situation where we have to belong to 2! That does not make good sense, and what is even more difficult to swallow is the one is charging 60% more next year. The 60% needs to be explained!

I briefly read both the Aero Club and Missasa reports on the year, I need to read it again tonight, since what I can remember both claimed fame to the same things achieved the past year. The differences in the 2 needs to be explained, the one cannot ride on the same claims as the other.

It is early, but I am afraid in my books it looks like Missasa just out priced themselves, and I will stay with Aeroclub to do my fighting!

I think we need an explanation! Especially if the office bearer earns a salary of our fees, he is accountable to us all.

Kind regards
Rudi

You cannot renew your Authority to Fly at CAA without third party insurance.
MISASA/Aero CLub issues the third party.
How do you get around this if not a MISASA member :?:

And yes, if you are a MISASA member, you have to pay the Aero CLub affiliation fees.

MISASA Membership for 2006 will cost (from the invoice I just received):
Aero CLub R 205.00
MISASA R 400.00
Third Party Ins R 375.00

Total R 980.00
Demon,

Being a non-owner it's not been an issue for me. But now I own a share in one so have to sort myself out !!

Yip I Found the PDF's with reports on Aeroclubs site...

Both mention fighting against:
- Lanseria TMA expansion
- Mandatory use of Transponders
- Licencing issues
- Approved Persons issues

Given, some items was unique, but damn, there is a huge overlap.

Aero Club Report page 5-7

Misasa Report page 13

I know I am stirring, but 60% increase? for what purpose or reason?

Not the case anymore. You can renew without 3rd party. Not always a good idea, but you can do it.

I'll tell you what - you find it at any better than the current and you will be the equivalent of Superman  To put it in perspective, on a C152 you will pay R3090 per annum just for the R2.5m 3rd party insurance, so I think the R375 is absolute peanuts.

Misasa and Aeroclub costs

Postby RichardParsons » Fri Nov 25, 2005 11:30 pm

I have to agree.. eagerly waiting at the post box to get my MISASA magazines, I rip it open and find a copy of the Aero-Club promo pamphlet,July Edition of African Pilot and a letter saying "Cough up"
I can understand all the costs except R400 for MISASA PLUS another R250 for AERO-CLUB

I do realise that MISASA fights for my rights, but WHY misasa AND aero-club??? what value does aero-club add?

I am getting concerned that the Gravy train is ready for boarding and I dont want another Aero-club fiasco to happen.

Best Regards

CAA does not require 3rd Party insurance, ICASA radio license or MISASA membership for ATF renewal anymore. I registered a plane in my name two months ago, and CAA informed me that all aforementioned are non-required optionals.

I must say when I registered AUK in April CAA also didn't request any 3rd party or Misasa membership from me either.
