HELP Bush baby Convex

Postby RV4ker (RIP) » Wed Mar 18, 2009 8:33 am

It appears I do not have Bush baby on my license (even though I have 20 odd hrs on them).

Looong story and CAA have even longer story. Log book is signed but paperwork never got to them. To cut said long story short. WHERE CAN I GET TAILWHEEL BUSH BABY CONVEX in Jhb?

HELP. Animal is nearing completions.

PS
Any merrit in getting RAASA RPL type license for this?

No merit in going to RAASA if you have a PPL. Just do a convex.

RV4ker,

this might sound strange but it appears that there is only one model for the Bush Baby, wrt CAA Z-codes, irrespective of tail wheel or nose wheel. So if you can't come right finding a tailie, go with a tricycle version, you already know how to fly the tailie

Cyril Manser at Rhino. Busy with three guys on Bush Babies tailies. Maybe speak to the owners of the Bush Babies for an hour hire and fly. The one - Andrew's was on offer for 50% partnership. Pretty sure you'll be able to discuss this with him over a beer.

Rhino is half an hours flight from Rand or FABB. If the gravel bothers you with the RV, Kitty Hawk is an option to land - 4 miles from Rhino. Pretty sure Cyril will pick you up there with the BB. I'll get numbers if you are interested.

Took this pics on Saturday.

We will be putting Explorers in schools over the next couple of years, Taildraggers for real pilot's 8) 8) , We are starting with Pyramid in Barberton. Brian will do the training from there. I will do conversions at Komati, just waiting for our guys to finish the company plane  BMW powered and the one at Brian will have a 582.

I agree, Cyril would be a good option, he knows the BB inside out having test flown a large percentage of them ! I am sure a plane can be arranged. Transport from Kitty also no problem if you prefer the tar runway to land your "blik".

If you need his number let me know, I have it.

Hi Guys
Please send me Cyril's number. I happy to land at Rhino. It a smooth highway compared to some of the "strips" I have used...

4ker

Check my post under the Cheetah forum. No need to go the RAASA route. An MPL Grade A or B instructor can, it would seem from Mary S. at CAA do your type conversion onto your PPL.

Did you really sell the Cubby only to start all over with a BB?

Cubby and Da Animal are vastly different beasts with vastly different missions.... Animal has been a project that has come over a loooong time built to be a classic (1 of a kind in SA at moment)... Cubby was bought as "investment" to put in school and get instructors rating which did not go 100% (or even 20% for that matter    )as planned :x :x :x :x , but that a whole other story. I already have a Tandem aerie and for social flying it KAK although sitting behind rather than in front like in RV does help a little. The Animal was supposed to be a fun flying syndicate similar to your "om die dammer" Cheetah, but circumstances have changed and costs have escalated over time. i can not justify it alone and sadly am afraid I will have to sell her 9or maybe syndicate) but not before I do a good couple hrs.    Maybe even a round SA trippie (or 2)

Compare for yourself...

PS
I did convex with Johan Fronemann at Saldanah on BB, then ferried said BB to Jhb (±12hrs), but paperwork never got to CAA for some reason (I posted it since I always seem to have blood pressure problems when I enter the hallowed halls     ). Logbook is endorsed etc., but they have nothing on record and the papierjie that says this is not a license does not list the BB on it. So rather than try to get all forms sent down there, redone, resigned and then sent up here, to scream & shout, I though I would go get "current" again. Should not take more than 3 or 4 circuits if feet are "alive"... I have not flown a BB for a couple years so maybe a check ride is a good idea.... puff

Eish Rhino's runway looked more like a mudbath than a smooth highway on saturday last.

Last Saturday it was fine, a day or so after heavy rains it is a problem but when dry it is a lot smoother than Petit  vhpy

Oh, just don't land short on 09 or 27, you WILL get wet vhpy vhpy

It will be resurfaced soon (^^)
