Re: Bushbaby Explorer # 130

Hi Boet. Wow, havent been to this site in many months. Yes,I wonder, just who gave me he venturi idea. Thanks, it works 100%, never had the engine get close to hot, not even on the max all up clinb test in 27 dg. temps. I submitted my PoH yesterday, lets hope they accept it without too many queries ...

Re: Finally: MY own Bushbaby Explorer

Howzit Boet.

Just love the reflection of the vertical stab on the tail wing, really great paint job.

First flight soon ?? or has she felt the gentle breeze under her wings yet.

Nice and light, should fly bright.

Re: Finally: MY own Bushbaby Explorer

Hey Boet. She is looking very nice.

Are you really expecting amost 100mph with a 582. Hope you achieve that.

Been battling to log on for a while, but tailspin sorted that out today.

Hope your first flight goes better than planned.

Regards.

Re: Finally: MY own Bushbaby Explorer

Hey Boet.

She is looooking very good.

Will this be a record from start to flight for a Bushbaby?

What prop are you using if not a PProp.

Please keep the pics coming

Re: Bushbaby Explorer # 130

Hi Boet. I may take you up on your offer, but I want to finish the test flying with the Powerfin 3 blade prop. I get exactly the same as the prop I borrowed from PietProp which is an 80Mph cruise at 5200rpm, but with a max of 5000rpm static on the ground. Would the 48 X 52 not be too sluggish up her...

Re: Bifoculs and flying ?

I have the same as Morph, but took it a little further. I took a string from the bridge of the specs to the centre of the dash and measured for length. The optomatrist then did the eye test at that distance and had bifocals made...they are perfect and are not too high so they do not effect vision in...

Re: Building the new Bushbaby SAFARI

Hi Oupa-G. Love your fuel cap spanner. My cap was turned smooth on a lathe and I had to use a large visegrip to open or close due to the binding. I put on a little copper slip on the threads and it now easily turns by hand and seals nicely. Guess it will wash off over time, just add as needed. How d...

Re: Bushbaby Explorer # 130

# 130 had another 20 min test flight by Muke Cathro and then he collected me and I flew 25 min and did some turns and touch and goes. What a delightfull plane, so sensitive on the controls and very responsive. Couple of problems, prop / engine vibrating very badly, so foo woith the prop and will try...

Re: Bushbaby Explorer # 130

Hey AndyCap. Many thanks for some great ideas. The yellow paint stripe on the wheel would have paid dividends now as the tail wheel has twice rotated on the hub and punctured, this in spite of being glued and pumper hard. We have also toyed with the other " plackards" and having them cut in either r...

Re: Bushbaby Explorer # 130

ZU-LLV had her maiden flight today late afternoon. Mike Cathro was stuck in traffic for hours and could only take off at 05:37. She flew just as well as any other Bushbaby, but has a small list of snags to rectify. Radio became very noisy during the flight. Needs right rudder imput all the time. Ang...

Re: Bushbaby Explorer # 130

Hi Boet. Peter spent Thursday and saturday rewiring the redio as all sorts of things went wrong. Everything is now sorted, cowlings will go on and I spoke to Mike just now for a possibility to do the test through this week. I flew down to Barberton in the Maule and had a great time, even met Stefan ...

Re: Building the new Bushbaby SAFARI

Hi Oupa G.

We also could only get 19/20 deg up elevator and thats when the horn pushed hard up against the vertical post.

Are you able to get more by adjustment or are you going to have to do a mod.

Regards,

Nico

Re: Bushbaby Explorer # 130

The header tank is before ther fuel pump and is gravity fed. The problem comes with the introduction of a return pipe which t's off after the mechanical pump with a restrictor and is routed to the top of the header tank. I guess with the engine idling and both pumps working there must be a " little ...

Re: Bushbaby Explorer # 130

Hi All. No, very sad, she did not fly. Mike Cathro got in , strapped himself in tight after a thorough pre-flight and briefing, started up and Werner and I walked half way down the runway to take pictures. About 4 minutes into the warm up, we saw legs hanging out the door and a minute later, the eng...
