Re: MISASA Fees 2012
EMailed Aeroclub on all available addresses but never a reply. Phoned Aeroclub to confirm my EMail address that changed 4-5 years ago but they had never corrected their records. Gave them my correct address and asked for the Fundi link to be mailed or whatever they do with it. Zilch has happened. Ha...

Re: IS IT ME OR THE TRIKE?
If anyone knows a neurologist then ask him for info. Remember some lecture where the guy talked about left and right sides of the brain having an effect on arm movement. Same applies to formation flying...some pilots feel uncomfortable flying on the right wing but are totally at home sitting on the ...

Re: Class 4 medical renewal- what's expected?
All the info regarding medicals can be read at the following website:
Start by Googling--- Aviation SA CARS PART 67
Look for CAA Website-FAQ-SACAA and open that page.
For Class 4 it looks like your GP can do the medical. Perhaps the MISASA people have more gen on that.

Re: Class 4 medical renewal- what's expected?
As far as I'm concerned there is no difference between a Class 4 or a Class 1 medical. On paper yes but in practice no. I always used to do my medicals at Centurion with a Doctor who mainly did aviation orientated candidates and it was always a pleasure but as soon as you go to a GP who does the occ...

Re: RAASA and Licensing
You are not the only one who thinks this is a load of bull. I asked MISASA what the logic was and the reply forthcoming was: Once a pilot got his licence he never again did a renewal check. This is deemed to be dangerous as pilots do get lax when it comes to checks and procedures to be followed and ...

Jeez, I didn't know that the Aero Club still issued membership cards.

Re: Renewal Skills Test Senseless Regulations
When I was initially issued with my licence a year ago the validity, irrespective of previous experience, was for 12 months after which one has to do a "skills test" before going on to the 2 year flight test cycle. Having studied Part 62 CARS I came across Competency 62.01.9 which states "the holder...

Re: Senseless Regulations - Part 2
The flight check is of great value to every pilot irrespective of experience and the question of capping should be approached carefully. Airline pilots do annual route checks, sim refreshers and ratings .Having spent several years doing sim training as well as route checks there were many occassions ...

Re: Renewal Skills Test Senseless Regulations
Hi T-Bird The answer is pretty straightforward. If the instructor is rated on taildraggers as well as nosewheel then it's an "Unrestricted Open Rating." Instructors with only nosewheel types could be classified as a "Nosewheel Restricted Open Rating." Hi Len My knowledge of Gyro's is zero. Reading t...

Re: Renewal Skills Test Senseless Regulations
T-Bird and Gyronaut, if you read the initial post more carefully you will see that the actual renewal test is not the problem. The problem lies with the fact that the check instructor has to be type rated on the aircraft that he is checking the pilot on,keeping in mind that the pilot being checked i...

Renewal Skills Test Senseless Regulations
Every 2 years pilots have to do a renewal skills test. The problem is that the check instructor has to have the type on his licence. Finding a type rated instructor in the more outlying areas is problematic and to get this test done means pilots have to do hours long flights to get to a rated instru...

Re: ICOM A200 Intercom Hot Mike
This only applies to the intercom. there are two buttons on the stick, one for the VHF which operates normally. The other button is for the intercom. Originally you had to press that button (intercom PTT) to talk to the other person in the a/c. The intercom has been "hotwired" and the intercom is li...
