Re: Fuel consumption on Rotax 582

I do have a fuel flow meter. It's not 100% accurate but when I fill up to around 75L and set my known fuel on the meter to the same, it shows me about 23L when the mark on the tank says 21L (3.8% error not bad). At take off with max revs 6500 it is bouncing around 25L,/hr then when I start cruising ...

Re: Warm Fronts

Yup, managed to fly this morning and while I did a touch and go at Klip, two more trikes were warming up. It was actually cold in the air and I was glad I had a flight suit on. Next week looks good - finally. See you use the same programs as me to get an idea of weather. Also like the METAR and TAF ...

Re: Warm Fronts

Agree with you there. Really struggling to find decent weather, according to Windguru I should be happy as according to the App it's been the best Kite surfing weather every. I just took the wrong sport up. I see it should be good tomorrow morning early.

Re: A Beautiful Adventure (escaping the patch)

Sorry to hear that it was cut short. If you do decide to do April/May next year I might be interested as well as some others. It has always been on my bucket list and after watching the Mike Blyth and Olivier Aubert in South to South where they covered 43 000 kms the expedition bug has bitten again.

Re: Microlight on Floats

There is an article the first edition of the Trike magazine on the Cygnet, which is a clip on system so you can have the best of both worlds. Designed in Canada which is not surprising as that is where the float planes are also popular. Trike online magazine is Aussie based so the article is on flyi...

Re: Fuel consumption on Rotax 582

Thanks, I think the light has come on. I may be doing 5100 rpm but not at full throttle so the fuel consumption is lower. So that 75% figure in the manual has limited practical use. I was trying to compare it to adverts for a Rotax 912 based planes where they generally quote 12-14 l/hr (also backed ...

Re: Fuel consumption on Rotax 582

Then I am still missing something as at 5100 rpm I am outputting 35 of the 48 kW which is 73% (as per power output graphs in manual).

Fuel consumption on Rotax 582

I have put about 70 hours now on my Raptor with a Rotax 582 blue top. My consumption is around 12-13L per hour and I normally cruise around 5000-5100 rpm. This is much better than the Rotax manual states (20.5L per hour @ 75% continuous performance) so it is a pleasant surprise and makes me think Ro...

Re: Welcome to the Microlight Forum

Gubby, I fly out to Vaal Dam quite often from Panorama. Was out there on Wednesday following the shoreline at low level. One of my favourite trips especially when visibility good.

Re: Cost and duration

I see no-one has replied from a flight school side so let me give you my experience. I qualified in Feb this year. You need the minimum 25 hours if you have not had any flying experience. Of that 10 hours dual and 15 solo. That is the theory but as you still need to do your dual 10 hour checks, dual...

Port Alfred area

I would love to take my Trike down to Port Alfred area as my parents are retired down there and would like to combine family visit with flying. Is there anyone on the forum who knows the area and can advise me on airfields, possible temporary hangarage, local conditions etc. ?
