Gyros for the SAAF?

Had the great privilege of taking Colonel Jakes Jacobs for his first trip in a gyrocopter (or any microlight aircraft for that matter) this morning. Col Jacobs is Commander of the Overberg AFB and holds both fixed wing and helicopter ratings including a rating for the Oryx. I hardly touched the stic...

TBO on Rotax 914... CAA regulations?

As I understand things Rotax originally recommended an overhaul on their engines at specific hours for various engines (mine being 1200 hours). This was a recommendation only but not a mandatory requirement. The SA CAA adopted these recommendations and made them mandatory for all SA Rotax engines. I...

Gyro's at the Kei Mouth?

I was sitting on the beach at Trennery's Hotel near the Kei Mouth yesterday nursing a bout of flu and bemoaning the fact that there is a great strip nearby and my gyro is 1300km away at Morningstar. The wind was blowing properly and I was thinking of how nice it would be to have my gyro here when tw...

Re: The Two River's Odyssey

Awesome awesome awesome! Nothing beats taking your flying machine to hitherto un-visited & unexplored places. Last year 3 of us did a similar outing and here is the link to the trip report: http://www.microlighters.co.za/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=16012 which contains a lot of info on the Orange River to ...

Re: Gyro pilot help wanted for test flying..

I am using a pair of your Condor helmets into which I have semi-permanently installed a set of twin-jack MGL headsets. The wind noise reduction especially for the rear seat passenger is significant! Learjet came for a flight in the back with me last week and used his own DC headset with a half-face ...

Re: Tips and tricks!?

I'll volunteer half an hour in the circuit with you in my M16, on me, for a start. (^^) Bravo Len, now THAT is an attitude worth applauding! An instructor volunteering free time for both himself and a school plane, that's a really big gesture! I doubt you'll find too many flight schools doing that....

Re: WESTERN CAPES NEW LADY GYRO PILOT

Well done Lana! Great to hear you passed your flight test! Look forward to your company for some flights around the Cape. Looks like the price of that gyro might just be quite high!!!

Re: Flying Cape Town

Mounting position depends on what you want to show... Scenic shot with no foreground, mount under the nose. Shot showing the pilot/pax, mount on the mast. Shot showing the whole gyro, mount on the tail. Camera choice depends on resolution requirements vs. cost, weight and mounting considerations. Ea...

Re: Ass saving advice from Instructors

Thanks Len... Maybe I just assumed you'd been around a LOOOOOOONG time!!! I include the Manifold Pressure check under P for Pressures (Fuel Pressure, Manifold Pressure etc)...

If I fly well then its because I had a great instructor :)
