LSA and recreational licence Part 62

I must admit the intial purchase price can be rather pricey on the LSA's notably the top range ones like Stings and Samba's, Tecnams, and others mentioned, mmm, maybe a C 152 could be a better bet there, the Jabs are nicely priced, but the way one purchases is also a huge factor, min deposit scenari...

LSA and recreational licence Part 62

Hi Skybound, well as far as the medical issue goes it will be less frequent than that of the PPL, class 4 cost saving there, maintenance far cheaper A 100 MPI on a ZS registred a/c can land up almost paying for a top end overhaul on a Jab or Rotax engine, TBO can be eye wateringly expensive even on ...

Avcom versus Microlighters

Hi folk, I'm a dual user at Avcom I'm known as Apollo11 and at microlighters Apollolight, I fly both microlights and light aircraft, and I enjoy being on both forums, I've learnt a lot from both too. I'm an MPL 3 axis instructor and commercial pilot and boy have I got a lot to learn, sure I've learn...

LSA and recreational licence Part 62

Morph that is an interesting suggestion that does have merit, I chatted to an instructor friend a couple of years ago and he suggested something like to after getting ones licence no passengers to be carried until say 3-5 hours of post MPL, no flights beyond 50 NM until 10 hours of post MPL licence ...

LSA and recreational licence Part 62

Mmm, some interesting view points, but as some have pointed out the main idea around LSA certification is to bring down costs, accomodate the exiting new aircraft that are not m/lights but also not light aircraft. - not bring down standards. Furthermore the new Part 62 situation will have the recrea...

LSA and recreational licence Part 62

Hi Chuncky, agreed that the LSA type aircraft sometimes can be a little trickier by virtue of their light weight and in windy conditions, but a huge factor is the instruction given. Good instruction will produce no problems for the student training on LSA's. But remember why the LSA was started in t...

LSA and recreational licence Part 62

Hi Skybound, mmm, valid concerns indeed, the Prt 61 5 hour increase certainly shows the powers that be are aware of the changing invironment and taking appropriate action. Sure there will be the occasional student who would argue their case based on those min hours required. Most instructors would n...

LSA and recreational licence Part 62

Hi Chuncky, oh yes agreed the new LSA's are in many instances as u and I and others on the forum have pointed out a little tricky to fly notably in windy conditions and also many of these new generation "microlights"/LSA types, most can outperform typical traditonal trainers like the C152, however r...

MISASA meet at Panorama

Hi folk, does anybody know where one can obtain info about what was discussed at the meeting? Like minutes? Sadly I could not make it. Did anybody on this forum go? Was the LSA - part 62 discussed?

Training time MPL to PPL 3 Axis

Hi there for my two cents worth, I can certainly say that MPL flying and "PPL" are rather different having operated in both invironments. The light weight of the classic type microlights like the thunderbirds and even the newer generation Jabs, Stings etc... require some deft handling notably in str...

LSA and recreational licence Part 62

Hi folk have a look at the misasa site www.misasa.co.za, and then go to Light Sport Aircraft summary, it explains it pretty well. Just heard there have been a few industryupdates to the summary on misasa, but the basic LSA layout is pretty much what it will be. In a nutshell Max weight 600 kg's Max ...

LSA and recreational licence Part 62

Hi Morph, tks, pretty much what I've heard too, well we can hope, a lot of things are happening in Jan 2008 with the updated part 61, and the new JAA exam syllabus.
I'm usually on avcom.co.za and only recently came into contact with this chat site.
