Optimal Arial Lenghts for TX

The "ATC" tower where im working is using an Icom a6 handheld radio, with about 3 meters of co-ax cable used to connect to a whip arial which is mounted about 5 meters above the ground. We are able to recieve inbound A/C from about 58 miles, however can only Tx with reasonable clarity for about 10-1...

No but it is glowing a little and I struggled to shut the engine off on landing

KB have you got a 503 inverted motor ie plugs at the bottom........ looking like a flying steam train when over flying our airstrip :shock: puff :shock: Dont worry about it Bennie :lol: ........ ive seen the guys from the aerobatics teams (eg chubb) filling the sky with smoke as they fly , it seems to be a crowd pleaser =D* ......... their rings are probably sticky...
