Re: Engine Problems!

Revs are controlled by the carbs, fuel and air if the vent pipe is blocked the fuel will initially be supplied and normal operation will occur, but as the tank vacuum increases the engine will begin to die. Switching on the electrical pump will show a difference, for a while. This happened to Ranger...

Re: choke or no choke

The rotary valve is found on the 582 mod 90/99

The 582 doesn't get it's oil via premix with fuel, it is held in a small bottle on the top of the motor and is fed into the side of the crank case via the rotary valve.

Re: choke or no choke

When the 503 stops, both air intakes are always closed and there is no free air movement to the crank. On a 582 the rotary valve system will always leave one of the two chambers open and thus expose the crank to moisture.

Re: choke or no choke

The only reason you would do this is to prevent corrosion on the crank if left to stand for long periods. The 503 motor unlike the 582, has almost zero possibility that the crank could corrode. I wouldn't even bother.

Re: Water temp drop

Was it an instant drop, i.e. flick the switch and the needle drops or was it as a result of cooling down?

Re: Fuel pump help

This might sound really wierd but... It is winter, and your battery could be on it's way out. If the motor does not spin fast enough you could struggle for hours, eventually creating other issues like flooding. Yet a simple pull start works. I even had my solenoid for my starter motor arc across the...

Re: EGT no reading

normally EGT probes fail or the wire fails.

swap the wires of the two probes on the skydat and see if the problem moves. If so then it is the probe or wire. If not it is the gauge. Typically it is the wire that breaks due to vibration

Re: Bing Carbs - flooding

If the floats don't stop the fuel flow, apart from the overflow mess and waste of fuel, what will happen? (apart from possible fire?) The Bing is a three stage carb right? Runs off the idler jet at idle, the needle for midrange, and the main jet at full taps. A full float chanber cannot have any ef...
