Re: CHANGING TO A DIFFERENT POWERPLANT

Re: 10 YEAR OLD ROTAX ENGINES
Fully agree. As a law abiding citizen i cannot and will not promote illegal flying, and SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT. We will have to investigate how to change engine types on other than non Sycamore gyro's. I will contact Mr.Piet Fourie from CAA and discuss the road ahead to find a safe and legal way to go ab...

Re: CHANGING TO A DIFFERENT POWERPLANT
Francois, what is the Aeroclub and the Gyro sec response to your 10 year old motor inquiry? I know this influences everyone flying with a soon to be 10 year old motor and I personally don't take offence to your direct manner of communication but can think why others would be put off by your abrasiv...

Re: CHANGING TO A DIFFERENT POWERPLANT
Jaco,Jaco,Jaco.

Re: CHANGING TO A DIFFERENT POWERPLANT
Unfortunately that is true Greg.Piet now has to travel all over the country to inspect aircraft etc.I met two new BEE cadres the other day, appointed to do accident investigations. One was appointed to investigate a helicopter crash. They do not know the difference between a two and four stroke engine....

Re: 10 YEAR OLD ROTAX ENGINES
Greg the question here is whether CAA is in a position to issue an ATF for the airframe only.In other words, the ATF is broken up in two parts, one part is the airframe and one part is the engine. This will leave the option for the owner to decide which powerplant he wants to use,a powerplant out of th...

Re: 10 YEAR OLD ROTAX ENGINES
Important thing here is that ROTAX BRP is now doing the insurance thing. They are fully aware that there are engines with inherent weaknesses.Trying to find a reason to avoid been responsible. They make no attempt to fix the problem. They must have a fair idea of serial numbers involved, these engines s...

Re: 10 YEAR OLD ROTAX ENGINES
Today i am a very happy man Since CAA waived al their rights to control my engine,i am now tearing out the engine section of my aircraft logbook. This has a lot of implications,i don't even have to service my engine if i dont want to.CAA now has jurisdiction of my airframe only.We are slowly moving i...
