Re: Is Rotax 503 and 582 going off the market? Replacement?

Thanks for the replies!! So one is safe installing a rotax engine again....seeing that there are no real alternative for the trikes available at the moment. (ease of installation, ready-converted for air use, spares etc?) Guess I'll be off to the classified section to start searching for a good cond...

Is Rotax 503 and 582 going off the market? Replacement?

There's been some rumors that the smaller Rotax engines (503 and 582) will go off the market and people in the market for a new engine should avoid going for the rotax again...... If these rumors are true: 1.) When will they go off the market? 2.) How long will spares still be available? 3.) What wi...

Re: Rotax 503

Hi Luther, Interesting discovery.....I wonder if that is part of the DI design or just a "by Product" due to the design. To do a 1 to 1 (SI to DI) comparison would probably be difficult. Due to the way the engine was ran in the care that was taken with it. Is there a way of doing an independent test...

Did the general feeling regarding 503 SI and DI changed since 2007?

Re: Better fuel consumption on 503 ?

Thanks for the reply Morph. I'll go and have a look at the needle jets. (I've replaced them about 100 hours ago) I have the little rubber ring installed. Spark plugs replaced 3 hours ago. The gap is as they have set it for me at Aviation Engines when I bought them. (what gap do you suggest?) I'll go...

Better fuel consumption on 503 ?

Hi, I've noticed an increase in fuel consumption on my Rotax 503 trike. Its been operated from the same elevation as always (3700ft). But it seems it is burning 15l/h now when I'm flying solo. (That is in a cruise config - 1 take off and 1 landing). Any ideas? Can it be the season that is changing? ...

Re: First Engine out - Fuel pickup pipe

Thanks all for the info.
That pick-up pipe is secure now. I have aluminum pickup pipe with a 180 deg bend at the end of the pipe, so I guess the upside down V won't be necessary. (If I understand correct?)

Hopefully I won't have another engine-out anytime soon!!

First Engine out - Fuel pickup pipe

Hi All, I had my first engine out on Sunday morning. I was approaching the runway from the upwind side when I started losing power. I tried to keep the engine running and proceed towards the field, but this was a slow process as the headwind was at around 16 MPH with almost no engine power. I had go...

Re: Botswana air tour

Hi, Will there be ground support or will we land at places where fuel is available? Where will we stay? B&B, or camp in tents where we land? What would the maximum distance be between fuelling points? Is there a rough figure of the costs for the trip. (example trike, 2up, burning 15liters an hour @5...

Thus this trike only shows you where the controls are situated? Or does it actually fly?
Cause if it flies...I want one :P
