Halo around the sun 6 Nov 13:1B

Hello Microlighters,
There is a halo around the sun at the moment, we can see it in the Witbank area, quite spectacular. Check it out.

I agree with DarkHelmet - let his post be the last on this thread.
I just don't like consciously lining up one of those holes in the cheese. :)

Re: Low Flying - Wave Skimming

Put simply people get injured when hitting the ground. How many time do we see "a couple of more meters higher and he would have been OK" That statement is again in the postings from the latest Secunda incident. We low fly for the adrenaline rush and there are many incidents where too low is an issu...

Re: Birthday Dates (find some common ground)

Dave Jones,
20 April 59 - (same day as Bundy if I recall correctly).
I think he also likes Windhoek draft.

Also of note - its the same day as Hitler (although we have nothing in common)

Re: How did you come up with your Microlighters username?

I used to carry a six pack of the 275ml Milo in the cartons. I always had 6 in the flying bag. Great before and after flight especially if leaving early I missed breakfast. That was in the days when a carton of Milo was cheaper than a 375 Windhoek! The avatar comes from how I looked before beer beca...

Weather - FAA Glider Pilots Handbook Brilliant

I downloaded this PDF file from the US FAA website (to Kindle but it can go straight to computer) and have just fininshed reading it. (^^) Awesome. As gliders are generally not powered there is a lot of very detailed commentary on efficient flight, weather topics and how to deal with various conditi...

Re: Disgusting

Hello Loanranger, not being a member I did not participate. I feel your pain though as I am also trying to get our residents participation to stop the establishment of a guesthouse in our complex. There is a huge amount of comment and encouragement, but when the chips are down & its time to put thei...

Re: Piloting an aircraft that does not have a valid ATF

I also understand the Pilot is responsible for the ensuring the ATF is valid (its the owners job to get the ATF). If its a hire to fly plane the pilot will be in the poo even if its not his aerie.

Re: Warning to all pilots !!!!

And you Okes only found this out now! vhpy Bundy (!!) told me CAA asked him to be a giunea pig in secret and has been testing the process for some months now. His recommendation that both arms should be tested and an average taken apparently was rejected but I believe he has escalted the matter in t...

Re: Live feed Red Bull - Felix - Freefall from 120 000ft

I have not been on the site to discover exactly what this guy is trying to achieve & how he intends to do this. Listening to an interview on the radio with a Gent called Digby who had ejected from an aircraft at altitude (he doesn't fly any more!) he mentioned some factors of this challenge that got...

Re: Flyday Humour

A blind man (!!) wanders into an all girls biker bar by mistake. He finds his way to a bar stool and orders some coffee. After sitting there for a while, he yells to the server, "Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?" The bar immediately falls absolutely silent. In a very deep, husky voice the woman ne...

Flyday Humour

I was visiting my daughter and son in law last night.
I asked if I could borrow a newspaper and he said...This is the 21st century old man, here, use my iPad.
Let me tell you, that &^%$# fly never knew what hit it! ##
