Re: Justin's Raven

Since then, I have been getting my *rse kicked in some serious turbulence these past few weekends. These little wings certainly ride the bumps better than most, but perhaps flying mid-afternoon in 36C temps is not the best idea... At least I know it can take some punishment ;) . New radio issue crop...

Re: Justin's Raven

Heh... Haven't updated this thread for a while. Replaced the XCOM radio with a MGL v6, and the radio problems were at east temporarily solved. Net result is this:

Re: Manie se Raven

Excellent! Now the fun begins ;) .

If you don't have VGs yet, get Boet to make you a set. With VGs on, you will just scrape by as a LSA. Without them, it will be PPL category. Not sure what license you have - but registering it as LSA will improve resale value.

Re: Fuel consumption on Rotax 582

I do have a fuel flow meter. It's not 100% accurate but when I fill up to around 75L and set my known fuel on the meter to the same, it shows me about 23L when the mark on the tank says 21L (3.8% error not bad). At take off with max revs 6500 it is bouncing around 25L,/hr then when I start cruising...

Re: Fuel consumption on Rotax 582

Thanks, I think the light has come on. I may be doing 5100 rpm but not at full throttle so the fuel consumption is lower. So that 75% figure in the manual has limited practical use. I was trying to compare it to adverts for a Rotax 912 based planes where they generally quote 12-14 l/hr (also backed...

Re: Fuel consumption on Rotax 582

See the last curve here:

http://www.rotaxservice.com/documents/582perf.pdf

This shows fuel consumption at full throttle (take-off curve), and with a propeller load. Of course, the propeller curve depends heavily on the propeller, and atmospheric conditions.

Re: Fuel consumption on Rotax 582

Then I am still missing something as at 5100 rpm I am outputting 35 of the 48 kW which is 73% (as per power output graphs in manual). The graphs show maximum power at full throttle at a specific RPM - i.e. RPM is reduced by increasing propeller load. Once you start reducing throttle, these graphs g...

Re: Fuel consumption on Rotax 582

I have put about 70 hours now on my Raptor with a Rotax 582 blue top. My consumption is around 12-13L per hour and I normally cruise around 5000-5100 rpm. This is much better than the Rotax manual states (20.5L per hour @ 75% continuous performance) so it is a pleasant surprise and makes me think R...

Thanks alot Justin. So if I have my test pilots licens then I can fly it with out going for a rating or how does it work? I dont have a licens yet so I am not familiar with every thing that I need to do to be able to fly the plane when it is finished. Regards Divan I am not sure myself - I think yo...

Re: Manie se Raven

Mine (without spats or fairings) cruises at 120mph indicated at 20" MAP. Hovers around 130mph at full throttle (which is really only around 75% up here). Just wish it looked half as pretty as yours...

Re: Who in SA fly this kind of plane??

None registered in SA. You will probably need to get your test pilot to do your conversion after the initial test flight.

Interesting. Looks shorter all round than mine with the Jab3300 on. But that shape looks awesome - gonna be a real looker.

Hi Boet,

Have you checked the CG of that installation? Mount looks a bit short to me. Would be a pity to make a nice cowl, and then discover the CG is off. Trust me, I know :( .

Borrow a Microair Transceiver?

Hi All, I am having on-going issues with my (XCOM) radio. Apparently they are mechanically and electrically compatible with the Microair. Does anybody perhaps have a Microair that is currently unused, which I can use for a quick test flight (in order to verify if the issues are with the radio, or ai...
