Re: MEDICAL AID COVER - RISK SPORTS

You can buy accident insurance, including medical, to cover your flying, including microlighting, etc. and it won't cost an arm and a leg.

Suggest you contact Deon Langenhoven at DJ&A (011) 463-5550. Tell him I sent you!

Immoral or not the fact is that any pax who signs such a disclaimer must also take responsibility for his / her actions. Good point, well taken. The pax must take responsibility, I agree, but as you rightly point out, people tend to sign whatever's thrust in front of them when all they can think ab...

Hi, Biggles You're quite right....you ARE missing something! But don't feel alone: it's a very common misconception. Here's the thing: Insurance does not exclude losses arising from negligence. One definition of Negligence that I found useful is as follows: "The failure to use reasonable care. The d...

I'd be very happy to arrange and host a meeting for interested microlighters to discuss insurance-related issues. I daresay I could get a representative from Insurers and possibly an aviation lawyer to attend and put forward their own viewpoints and answer questions. Our offices are in Bryanston and...

Re: Insurance

Looking for some advice / comments on liability. I recently suffered some damage to my Bushbaby, although it is insured, I was not PIC, but for various reasons, I ended up paying the excess. I have for some time been lending my triike out to a friend who is in my opinion a good pilot. However, afte...

Hi BN I'm not trying to be argumentative, simply realistic. I think there's a common misconception about the meaning of the word 'negligence'. Simply put, you are 'negligent' if you do something a reasonable man would not do, or not do something a reasonable man would do. Of course, the rule is alwa...

2) His legal counsel advised him ...he had full right to claim 5) His legal counsel ...satisfied him that the Estate could afford the claim GK Chesterton said a lot of very wise things. Including: "To have a right to do a thing is not at all the same as to be right in doing it." Suing estates to ma...

Hey, Leon If you're buying Hull coverage as well, you'd probably get that level of passenger liability coverage for an extra R2,500/annum. If you're looking for the passenger liability coverage on its own, the price would go up a bit and some Insurers wouldn't offer liaibity coverage without the sup...

You need to be careful about getting indemnity forms signed. They will not assist you in the event of a loss arising from gross negligence. Nor will they prevent a legal actiion against you (which you will need to defend, probably at huge expense) in an attempt to get the indemnity set aside. Also, ...

Well, it took a while but we're there at last! Thanks to all those who participated in our little survey which, while the lowish response was naturally disappointing, did give us some useful pointers. I do not pretend that we will cater for all the people all of the time. However, what we can offer ...

In the absence of appropriate insurance, a "hold harmless and indemnity" agreement is your only defence against claims for compensation following a loss. The "hold harmless" bit is where the pax personally agrees not to hold you liable, etc. etc. The "indemnity" is where the pax says "and if anyone ...

Hi, RV4ker Apologies for the silence. As mentioned previously, the response to the survey was a little disappointing, with 114 replies, but I am very grateful to all those who made the effort. Some inital indicators: Only 1 in 3 microlights is insured against Hull losses. That indicates a huge level...

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but it raises an important issue. Please, guys, redflag your medical expiry date and make sure you get it renewed timeously. The same goes for anything with an expiry date...you don't want to find your passport or driver's licence has expired without you noticing....

Microlight Insurance Survey

114 responses were received, representing 117 aircraft in all, of which exactly one-third are currently insured: the rest are self-insured. Thanks to all those who responded and particualr those who included addtional comments. I am analysing the data and will give a full reportback here in the next...
