Re: Signs of the time

There is a lot of talk of recession etc but I find it hard to accept that people cannot afford to pay R100-200K for an aircraft when you see the large number of luxury cars and 4x4's on the roads and visitors from Gauteng cleaning out the local fish shop of all the lobsters that sell for R700-900 ea...

Re: Vortex Generators

Also have a look at stolspeed.com
They have a section on sweptwings that should help settle some doubt.
Also cheaper at under $100 a set.

Re: Vortex Generators

VG's work well on a Cubby, stall down from 40Kts to 32Kts, but it is a straight wing. I know nothing about weight shift but I think they do have a sweepback and if the VG's are fitted in the same manner as a straight wing the flow direction would be compromised. Suggest you research this carefully i...

Margate Airport Closure

The Margate airport is closed to aviation, which it is supposed to cater for, to allow the Dragracers to commandeer the place for their purposes from the 15-17 June (long weekend). So forget about this part of the world if you want to fly in. Up to yesterday no Notam has been issued. Even the people...

Re: Namibie 2013

As a matter of interest were you ever referred to the Namibian Microlight association for your application or have you only dealt with the Namib CAA?

Re: the law surrounding part 96

Obviously finance plays a large part in these kind of operations.
What would the costs of an initial ASL and then the annual renewal fees be?

Re: QNH-The silent threat

So how does QNH affect take off distance? The standard sea level QNH is 1013.2 so why is 1012 seriously low? Your silent threat is temperature. Altitude and temperature combined give you the density altitude and if the temp is high then the density altitude is a lot higher than your stated airfield ...

Have you thought about Alex-Fish River Canyon area-Keetmans-Upington routing. The canyon is stunning. Think there are customs/immigration at Alex and Oranjemund. The boffins should know.

Re: The early days of flying

The Camel was notoriously unstable. Due to the rotary engines gyroscopic effects if a pilot wanted to turn 90deg port the quickest way to do it was to do a 270deg starboard. Also joked about was that Camel pilots were easily recognized because they had no front teeth. Because the machine guns went f...

Re: Really Need Help Please

The South Coast is the dead end of recreational aviation. There is more activity in the local cemetery at midnight than at Margate Airport on a weekend. Margate Light Plane Club is down to about 20 members. 2 years ago it was 60+.
Try Lite Flite Maritzburg.

Re: MISASA, Please help us simplify

Why the negativity and reasons why it can't be done Bundy? Realistically the ATF has to be done at least 2 weeks before expiry. So when a pilot gets his precious piece of paper it is really only valid for 11 1/2 months because the new expiry is 2 weeks sooner than the previous years one. What on ear...

Re: Low Flying and Kitefishing

Hi Vernon, in 1960 when the natives in Pondoland were restless we used to fly Dak's along the Wild Coast at about 200' just to keep an eye on what was going on along the coast and were briefed on kite fishing and the areas where to expect them. We saw quite a few in the briefed areas and climbed a f...
