Prop Options

Guy's I need some advice. I'm Flying a Thunderbird with a wooden P-Prop, I'm looking for an alternative (lower maintenance) According to Gareth Davies the Warpdrive doesn't perform well with the 582, and the wooden two blade is the best. Does anyone know of an equivilent composite two blade prop.(or...

I've been using Caltex Super TT for years, no problems, and its cheap too. You can get 20lt from Caltex in Alberton for R280.

Hi Unicorn, I did my MPL with Brian Young in Barberton. Beautiful flying are. Just watch the weather. It took me 6 weeks to get my plane back, there was always low cloud over the ridge and we could not cross. The nice thing with the Barberton valley is that it's very protected. If the weather is bad...

I use an airfield with multiple runways, to practice crosswind takeoffs and landings. You then have more of choice as to the crosswind component you want to attempt. Try a few approaches, if all is good, put it down, if unsure go arround. You then also have the security of landing on a runway into t...

all of this is such excellent advice for us beginners. Landing is what it's all about, isn't it? Take off is automatic. Straight and level comes soon and turns aren't hard. Landing! Meet the ground! Anyway, it is so encouraging to read that one is not alone. As a good mate of mine says, "The more y...

My best and most consistant landings were when I went solo. After I got my license and another 45-50 hrs of flying I get it wrong a lot more than right. I think I should practice circuits a bit more instead of flying away from the airfield and do a single return landing  :?: I had a similar e...

Reminds me of an incident two years ago, flying from FAVV to Alldays, Limpop. A Cape Vulture flew off my wing tip for about twenty minutes. I was amazed, I was flying at 60mph and this vulture stayed with me, not moving a muscle. An experience of note. Could kick myself for not having a camera with ...

Hi Big Mac

I have a Thunderbird, and would gladly take you for a flip if you want.

You can also contact Gareth Davies at Crosswinds for an intro flight (They build the T-Bird)

I used to organise a breakfast at the airfield for my employees and their families. Must have flown about 40 people to date. Many of them were scared to begin with, but I'm happy to say all of them said that they would fly again.

Most people seem scared of small planes, that is until they fly in one.

Hi Arnold Please be carefull lending out your airplane. I lent my Microlight to a "Friend" while I was away on business. He offered to pay me R200 per hour that he flew. I figured there was no harm, seeing as it was just standing in the hanger. He then used it for training, put 80 hrs on the clock a...
