Before you re-oiled the filter did you let it dry overnight after washing it.
To rule out an air filter prob...have you tried to start it with out the a/f jst as a test in a non dusty environment of course.

Re: Engin out (Carb ice ?)
I still think owners can be far to quick to blame an engine out on carb ice...well on a 2 stroke any...and are content to use it as a cover all,
I see in the picture the carb exterior covered in ice...but its a fact that with a slide type carb (bing 54) it hard for it to stick internally.

Re: CHT not working
Before you bin the sender...check all connections in the line...the current from the sender is tiny...a tiny bit of resistance and it wont work...you could further test the sender without running the motor by heating the sender with a small blow torch..not much heat req on the CHT sender...not like ...

Re: Oval vs Conical air filter
I have to oval filter...its got a K&N logo on it...I suppose the oval tends to keep both carbs more secure being linked together by the air filter...only my opinion,
Over here in the UK we are not to use the filter with the Chrome cover as they can fall off in flight.

Re: Torque wrench calibration
You can do it your self if your have a spring balance that you know to be accurate and reads in lbs, Clamp the square drive in a vice....hook the spring balance at a point 12ins from the square drive on the wrench body...the wrench should click over at the correct poundage on the spring balance when...

Re: Rotax 503 - Carb Needle setting??
No reason why your carbs should not be set at std factory setting jet wise....black plugs could be for a number of reason inc dirty air-filter...worn needle...float set to high....these will give a rich mix, Maybe time o check your carb over and see what jets are in it, What type of a/c is it fitted...

Re: Bing 54 spares
http://www.csgnetwork.com/oilfuelcalc.html The above web site make it easy, Roz be very careful weakening mixtures on a 2 stroke or your asking for an engine seizure...the petrol charge helps cool the piston and you know what the oil does...weakening the mix and you piston will run hotter expand mor...

Re: Type approved radios.
Peter...there are some panel mounted radios the are very very expensive but no hand-held types suitable for flexwings apart from the very very old Icoms....its all very unsatisfactory, Be even worse in 2018 I think it is when we will have to bin our old Icoms as 8.33khz spacing is then mandatory.......

Zulu1...that's the problem...we are not allowed to use up to date equip as its not type approved over here...I just wish we could use the likes of the Vertex 220, With a bit of luck things may have to change in the near future but in the mean time its interesting to see how other countries get on wi...
