Re: Electric ultralights

Thanks for that info Gert. Like you I have a bad back. I should have been more explicit. I was looking into 3 axis. There are Ultralights like the SWAN where the pilot sits in a pod on a trike undercarriage. Also comes with an electric motor. South Africa does not have the American Part 103 ultrali...

I see they have been revamped, and are back up for comment.

Re: Compulsory Registration of Aerodromes

All on ice, sent back and withdrawn Not sure where you got that information - but unfortunately not the case. It has largely been gutted though. The worst of the provisions (safety audits, and compliance to unspecified CATS) have been removed. And changed to an on-line process. Going back to commit...

Re: Compulsory Registration of Aerodromes

Sub-parts 5 and 6 were withdrawn for resubmission as agreed at the past CARCom meeting. It was further agreed that these would be re-submitted with their associated CATS for further comment. Unfortunately, the CAA has declined to publish a notice to this effect (although this may have been discusse...

Re: Compulsory Registration of Aerodromes

Has Misasa through Aeroclub made representation? Surely all members of Aeroclub would be a an automatic significant number? Aeroclub itself ceased to truly represent pilots when they became a CAA clearing house for managing AROs. They depend too much on the income generated by CAA enforced membersh...

Re: Compulsory Registration of Aerodromes

Dear Mr Schoeman Please note that there 16 items published on the Government Gazette for inputs and comments. However, some items were erroneously published as CARCom has only approved for publication 6 items instead of 16 items. The following items were approved by CARCom for publication: Schedule...

Compulsory Registration of Aerodromes

t is back! As usual, it is a total stuff up. The Gazette refers to the CAA web site. The CAA website only has a tiny portion (and probably the least offensive portion at that) of the proposals listed. Would recommend that everybody read the Gazette (attached) and follow the instructions at the end t...

Any word on the numbers yet. CAA lists registered MAUW as 350kg, which would make it a single seater with me on board...

Re: Biplane for sale R225k

Will it fly two up up here on the highveld?

What is the rate of climb down there at max weight?

Current empty weight and MAUW?

Thanks,
Justin

Re: Suspicious microlight over Rietvlei rhinos

The area where the microlight was flying IS marked as a Nature Reserve on aeronautical charts and is clearly North of the Pinedene Corridor. Anyone flying in this area under the Jhb TMA should know the restricted areas and the rules of flying within the Waterkloof CTR. It appears this pilot ignored...

Re: Which fuel to use

I will personally go 95. Bit more octane, that will increase performance. Even more important going this route when not flying at the coast. Not worthwhile getting into trouble where a bit of power could have helped you out. Now that 10cent saving can cost you much more... (-) That is a bit of an o...
