Re: suitable headset for gyros

Hi Rob. I also have very sensitive ears and flying in the gyro has always been a chalange for me noise wise. I also experienced some deafening and tinitus over time... Ive been trough it all. noise reduction does help, but not satisfactory. The problem is with high end headsets, the mics are very ea...

Re: What would be the/your perfect Gyro??

=D* Good one Dave... Knight hawk, All I can add is that you got some very good honest advice from Dave. He knows what he's talking about... Go get your license first, I know there are a lot of guys buying first and then do training on there own machine to save some money, I did that, but with hindsi...

Re: What would be the/your perfect Gyro??

Yes, prices are going through the roof with the Rand in a downward spiral... There are some second hand options available though... You just need to search. To me the ideal gyro would be a gyro or brand with a good track record with regards to safety and durability. With that you will get a good res...

Re: What would be the/your perfect Gyro??

Knight hawk, Welcome to the forum. It all depends on your individual needs and of coarse your budget. There's a lot of options available.... For starters look at the tandem vs side by side threat. There's a lot of info there. Your main choices would be enclosed or open cockpit. Open cockpits are onl...

Re: Single seater gyros

Bosbok, I'm not sure but I think the Magni M14 is probably also an option. Its very light with the option of the 100 or 115 hp Rotax. I think it will be an awesome aerie.... Anybody in who has actually flown one? http://www.magnigyro.co.za/model-m14.html

Re: Gyro really the ultimate?

Yes Whirly, Rolling over a gyro is mostly pilot error, caused by cross wind situations when the pilot fails to land straight on the runway. The "top heavy" disc and the centrifugal force of the rotor is a "dangerous" combination.... The gyro "cocks" into the wind and needs rudder input to keep it str...

Re: Gyro really the ultimate?

Whirly, the websites tend to be on the optimistic side with regards to speed.... Now I don't have any experience on gyros other than Magni and Ela, but logic tells me the cavalon cannot really be much faster than the standard open cockpit gyros. Maybe they did figure out something to reduce the drag...

Re: Gyro really the ultimate?

Whirly, thanks, interesting thread.... My 2sents worth after coming full circle.... I flew gyros for several years and decided its time to "upgrade". I went through the whole painful and expensive process of obtaining a helicopter license, owned a chopper for a few years and got right back to flying...

Re: Tandem vs Side by Side; Perfect vs Ideal.

So if I can get a tandem (visibility) with a summer and winter canopy that has speed them I'm sorted? Are you talking Calidus THI? I must admit those look like it might be the best of both worlds. Allround visibility and the option of Winter/summer conopy. How does that work though? Are the conopie...

Re: Tandem vs Side by Side; Perfect vs Ideal.

I think in the end it boils down to horses for courses.... Recreational flying = shorter distances=exploring= lower altitudes= slower speeds= open cockpit Flying to get from A to B = longer distances =High speeds= High altitudes = Enclosed cockpit I suppose it mostly depends on application, In my ca...

Re: Gyro headsets

Just some more feedback. After almost 40 hrs using this system I am still amazed at the quality of my comms. Crystal clear radio comms. Vox works fantastic. It is set on 5 on the filser and it stays there. The intercom only opens when me or the passenger talks. As posted earlier... I get no enjine o...
