Re: Rotax 582 - what does this part do?
Ok, I had a look at a clearer copy of the exploded view drawing and have seen that the damper is held on by three 8 x 16mm hex screws. This still doesn't explain what happened to mine though as there is no sign of the bolts having rattled around in the casing. The motor is almost new and has never b...

Rotax 582 - what does this part do?
On removing the cover plate on the magneto end of my blue top 582 with an "E" box to do a prop strike inspection I found what I now know to be the "Liquid damper assembly" (part no 17 on the attached diagram). This was found to be loose as though the retaining bolts had fallen out but there was no s...

Re: What damage will a prop strike do to a 582 and "E" Box
This is the same problem that I have with my 582. Although the motor was turning relatively slowly, the vertical force of the gear collapse was enough to bend the engine mount. I have opened up the front cover of the gear box and it all looks okay but I haven't measured the run out yet.

Thanks Kalahari, I had similar advice here too but I will also contact Comet as Dobbs suggests and get the allowable specs to check if the output shaft is still in alignment. Cheers

What damage will a prop strike do to a 582 and "E" Box
Sadly I had a gear collapse on my Bushbaby that resulted in a prop strike that destroyed my wooden P Prop. The aircraft was taxiing at walking speed and the engine was running at approximately 2500 rpm. One blade broke off completely about half way along it's length and the other blade splintered qu...

Re: Skydat Airspeed Calibration
I spoke to Serge and I have reset the skydat to the factory default settings which zeroed the airspeed on the ground. I haven't flown yet to see what it looks like in the air. JBG

Thanks Andy - I will look into that option but this is Zim we are talking about! These guys can make the easiest of jobs very difficult. I am coming down to SA in April so it may have to wait till then. Cheers

Re: Skydat Airspeed Calibration
Block the Pitot tube with your finger, the speed should read 0 email: amptro@iafrica.com Tel/Fax : +27 (0)11 679 27 54 Mobile: +27 (0)73 31 55 757 It doesn't - that's the problem but I am in Zim so getting it back to amptronic is a bit of a problem. I will email them and see what they say. Thanks f...

Skydat Airspeed Calibration
Good day. Can anybody tell me how to calibrate a Skydat GX 2 so that the airspeed reads zero when the aircraft is stationary? Mine consistently seems to read around 13mph on the ground. Could this be a pitot issue rather than a calibration issue? Thanks, Johnny

Re: Rotax 582 Exhaust Issues and oil burn
Thanks Morph I have got egt probes linked to a skydat and the temps were well within range when I ran up to 5000 rpm on the initial run-in cycle. I had only adjusted the pump because I noticed that the set up lines on the side of the pump weren't quite returning to neutral when the engine was idling...

Must be the Zimbabwean internet - wasn't there yesterday or the reply from Boet but I see it now.
Glad you're paying attention.

Re: Rotax 582 Exhaust Issues and oil burn
Just some feed back - I did post this a couple of days ago but it must still be in cyberspace somewhere. I changed the fuel and put in some fresh stuff with no premixed oil. I also adjusted the autolube pump so that it wasn't putting out as much oil at low RPM's while I do the initial running in of ...

Re: Rotax 582 Exhaust Issues and oil burn
Just some feed back: I drained the tanks and carbs and put in some fresh fuel without any premixed oil. I also adjusted the autolube pump so that it wasn't adding as much oil at low rpm's. The motor ran a lot smoother without the vibration and subsequently the blow back via the exhaust sorted itself...
