Re: Considering a homebuilt project.

Give the Sonex a go. Easy to build, well made laser cut kit. Aircraft is semi aerobatic and stressed to +4.4g for utility and +6g for aeros. Two seat side by side but if you build with a centre stick you can fly solo from centre and side stick with a passenger. Lots of elbow room as a single seater....

Re: Ban Experimental Homebuilt Aircraft At Las Vegas?

I guess we shouldn't complain. Everyone hoped for the Democrats to get in and this is the result. They stand for bigger, more complex govt and more interference in the daily lives of citizens of the USA.

Radial. Rotary is an entirely different beast. Not many left in existence.

Re: LSA - Instrument Rating

My thinking is that having the rating could drastically improve my chances of survival if caught in bad weather, the IF rating for the plane would just be a bonus for those longer flights inland. What Stephan said. Without the rating and the right equipment I'd say you should brush up on your fligh...

Dros? Try this place www.gilroybeers.co.za just down the road.

At least the beer is palatable and won't give you a permanent orange Afro or make you glow in the dark.

Re: You and your AP.

I'm using an AME rather than an AP for my build. Nothing like having him hanging over my shoulder making my life difficult but I'm getting the best advice possible and use of some great tools.

Witbank for breakfast at the skydiving club on Sunday mornings. Might even get hijacked by a skydiver who'll stick a banana in your ear and demand to be flown anywhere as long as it's above 2000' AGL.

Why not give the Aerocarb a go in place of the Bings? Can't hurt if you're battling with the things.

Re: Waiex Project

Green with envy, mate. Going back to the bush Friday and only back in SA end January so have to contain myself and fantasize about flying my baby when she's built.

Congrats and hope you have lots of fun in her. Have to round up some more Sonex/Waiex owners for fly ins and get togethers.

Re: SNAP VENTS.

No worries. 10k is not too high in any case. The tinted canopy should help a bit too. I'll probably carry a car sunshade I can spread under the top of the canopy to shade things if needed, as well as use it to shade the interior when parked. The big high alt birds carry radiation monitoring kit to a...

Re: SNAP VENTS.

It's a tinted canopy and I'm looking at operating around 10k' on longer trips, around 7k for shorter sub 1 hour hops.

Reckon I'll give the 2" vents a go to start with. If they're not coping I'll go for the larger ones. Should be running at 150mph TAS at altitude so no prob forcing air in.
