http://www.villadcocos.com/SundryPics/scan0230.jpg http://www.villadcocos.com/SundryPics/scan0231.jpg These are the only other images that exist, as far as I'm aware. The quality is not the best, but ole Dave was clicking away far past his salary every month. Actually the credits for the SA Aeronew...

Re: Old Microlights - Do they just fade away?
What I like about the Eagle as a 'contraption' is that it's untraditional in appearance. All microlights at the time were quite flimsy and unreliable. The Eagle adds to that the mystery of the pterodactyl-like wings (there was actually a microlight called a Pterodactyl but it morphed into a Fledge, ...

Re: Old Microlights - Do they just fade away?
While searching for the pics I wanted of my Patrol and other aircraft from the 1980s I found all of Dave Becker's prints at the SAAF Museum Zwartkop. There are more than 100,000 photos stored in filing drawers the cover an entire wall higher than you can reach. The problem is to access them. The 'pr...

Dave Becker's Aviation Photos.
I have recently created a website to put the late Dave Becker's aviation photos online. There has been a lot of activity from Avcom but none from this forum, which leads me to suspect you don't know about it. You can access the a single photo for each registration, either through the SA Flyer (http:...

Seeking Doug Davey
Anyone know the whereabouts of Doug Davey?
Pretoria-based originator of the Bush Patrol and Dual Patrol microlights in the years 1982-1984.
I'm hoping he has some photos of his aircraft.
Many thanks.

Re: Old Microlights - Do they just fade away?
Yesterday I met with Alan Blain, the editor and publisher of Aeronews, which was the official mouthpiece of the Aero Club from February of 1983 onwards. He is managing a restaurant, The Oak and Vigne, in Greyton, Western Cape. Previously Greyton was to me just an NDB on the edge of the Cape Town TMA...

Re: Old Microlights - Do they just fade away?
Hi KWV,
Nice picture. Could you email it to me? And tell me some background - like where and when. Those T-hangars look like what Charles Fourie built at Rhino.
Best regards

Re: Old Microlights - Do they just fade away?
Hi Freddie, Many thanks. For your help. I'm getting a few answers from guys too shy to go public so they use my direct line, but this is opening up a memory lane for a few of the old-timers. HL Malan is Hennie Malan. When I first met him Hennie had a Double Eagle as per the registration in Aeronews....

Re: Old Microlights - Do they just fade away?
Hi Freddie, Hi Freddie, Many thanks for the email. Brings back memories. Do you have any pictures of MAC-CDL, Patrol, Quicksilver, or Double Eagle? Page 23 of Aeronews shows ZS-UUZ registered to HL Malan. That in fact is one of the aircraft at Rhino that appears in my article. Can you send the rest ...

Re: Old Microlights - Do they just fade away?
Hi Freddie, Thank you. Yes I would appreciate anything you have. This started off as one story covering the early days at Rhino Park and, specifically my involvement with microlighting there. That, however, is only a small part of the picture. A lot happened in the period 1975 - 1985 that would make...

Re: Old Microlights - Do they just fade away?
Anybody out there with old microlight pics? I'm working on an article for my column in SA Flyer about my time at Rhino Park in the early 1980s. At that time Fanie van Rensburg was selling Quicksilver MXIIs by the dozen from his shop in the Willows. Hennie Malan was flying his American Eagle, John Co...
