Re: Slotted flaps

If I was going to build these flaps I would do it like this: 1) I would build the slats as part of the flaps – see the picture of the DC9 flaps below. The slats and flaps have a common hinge point, and there is no flap track. Flap Hinge.gif flaptypes.gif 2) In order to get the benefit of the extra s...

Re: Slotted flaps

Hi Henni There is some excellent information on flaps here: http://naca.central.cranfield.ac.uk/reports/1949/naca-report-938.pdf Before you do anything further on these flaps, please discuss it with Stefan's engineer. He could save you a lot of heartache and if you are lucky he will not charge you f...

Re: Slotted flaps

Hi Henni I don’t know your background, so please forgive me if I am teaching you to suck eggs. The biggest problem with a mod like this is the engineering challenge because this is not a minor modification and has serious aerodynamic and structural implications that need to be resolved. You need to ...

Re: Mounting engine to VP1 firewall

As with any structural or aerodynamic changes you need to know exactly what you are doing. Unless you are prepared to do a stress analysis of the new mounting, you are best off sticking to what the plans say. Enlarging the bolt holes in the firewall to fit bushes may increase the stress in the firew...

Johannesburg Thunderstorms

On Thursday last week, a colleague at work told me that she had heard a severe storm warning including hail in the joburg area. I was a bit skeptical, as the cloud build up to the south didn’t look too bad, but as I was about to leave work I decided to check http://aviation.weathersa.co.za to see wh...

Re: Rewiring of Strobe/L Light- Need Cable.

Hi Bundy You can get shielded Tefzel wire from Jaycor http://www.jaycor.co.za. They are in Eastgate in Sandton. Tefzel is what most certified aircraft are wired with. For a strobe light, you should use shielded wire and earth the shield at the power supply end only to prevent radio interference. Don...

Re: Inflight Refuelling

Hi Zulu1 I would definitely be interested in this system. My requirements for a fixed wing are a bit different to trikes. I reckon that 90% of the time I would use it for normal refueling, but it would be nice to be able to carry extra fuel in the aircraft on occasion. I notice that some people want...

Re: Taildragger Conversion - Reasonable Rates

I did my tail dragger conversion with Andy last year, and would recommend both the instruction and the Cheetah to anyone wishing to do the conversion. Before I started the training, I was extremely nervous, because of all the stories I had heard about how difficult tail draggers can be. Within the f...
