Invitation to consider the need for type-approval of radios
Good Day, I have been quiet for a long period of time, having retired from Icasa in March 2013, but have not totally abandoned my interest in aviation. What I have done is forgotten which section of the forum I used to post info regarding radio licensing so have chosen the "Legal section". A new Gov...

Re: Where to repair icom a23 radio
On a similar topic perhaps someone, maybe Paul or Brad, can tell me if battery packs for the A23 are still available or can be made up and, if so, from whom can they be obtained? Preferably a source in the Durban area would be favorite but, failing that, anywhere in SA would be OK. Thanks and regard...

Re: Recording of Mobile cell calls - Beware
Hi, Recording of telephone calls is not permitted unless both parties have specifically agreed or unless one party, such as a bank, has advised a caller right at the beginning of the call that the communication will be recorded for "control or security" purposes. In the event that you have been so w...

Re: Solar power tower: Upington
The dishes at the SKA project are basically just extra large satellite dishes, same principle as your DSTV dish. They are intended to concentrate and amplify extremely weak electromagnetic waves from deep space, not radiation from the sun, so their heat coefficient is probably going to be very low i...

Re: Zimbabwe Democracy
Anyone noticed how, for the last few years, all elections in Africa have been declared "Free and Fair" by the various election monitors, however, the recent one in Zims was declared "Free and Peaceful"! Probably becaue fairness is a totally foreign concept to Uncle Bob and his Merry Gang!

Re: How does the radio system work in microlights??
Phislett, If you want guidance/instruction on what radiocommunication is all about and if you are going to the Virginia Airshow on Saturday, do yourself a favour and find the HAMNET stand and speak to Mr Keith Lowes. HAMNET is the national Amateur Radio emergency network which responds to various di...

Re: Radio Licence renewals for 2013-2014 period
John.com Sorry to take so long to reply but I've been out of circulation up in Polokwane for a week. Got back to Durbs on Wednesday and only just got around to checking the Forum tonight. I've attached a file, which I hope is readable, to indicate what info is required at the sections you queried. I...

Re: Radio Licence renewals for 2013-2014 period
John.com (and anyone else who is also battling to find the application forms) Every time I try to copy the link to this forum it gets corrupted and won't work so I'm going to give you the steps one by one starting from the Icasa Home Page. To get to the HP, the web address is http://www.icasa.org.za...

Re: Radio Licence renewals for 2013-2014 period
Hi Dobbs, look up ATF forms and Form Number: RA 24.2 (b),point 3. That point merely says that you are not required to submit a copy of the radio licence in the case of a handheld radio. It does not say that you don't have to have a licence for a handheld radio, which in fact you do have to have. All...

Re: Radio Licence renewals for 2013-2014 period
Hi Dobbs, The ATF doc clearly say that if the radio is a hand held, no licence required. If the ATF documents say that then they are totally incorrect. Are you sure you have not perhaps misunderstood the requirements? If you are correct, please give me a contact person and his/her telephone number o...

Re: Radio Licence renewals for 2013-2014 period
Louis, I had an ex-colleague check the Icasa database and he tells me that the licence has been generated (licence number 5368257) but your payment of R600.00 has not yet been credited, nor has the application been finalised by the Audit department, so it is likely to take some time yet for the actu...
