The requirements under the new law is not much different - 5 hours - , but even for a RPL you will need a flight test every 2 years, irrespective of number of hours (same as PPL) Nothing wrong with doing a flight test every 2 years. I think one should do something like that anyway even before it is...

Agreed RV4ker.

If you end up not affording the repayments - let them take the house. After all, you can't fly a house - but you can live in a hangar

I think the new proposed regs (still to be promulgated), increases it to 12 hours per annum. It is amazing that you really only appreciate that it is very low, when you start to do more than 100 hours per annum. That is when I realised that the 10 hours per year were keeping me in a danger zone. Fly...

Helolo friends in flying :D :D After speaking to a couple of pilots I understand your comments! Oops, sorry, I wasn't thinking. Please find a place in your hearts to forgive me!! -0< -0< -0< No forgiveness necessary. I can guarantee you that there will be others to confuse airspeed and ground...

A just been rebuilt 912 on the market here in PE. Brand new crank etc installed. (PM me if you want contact details of seller) Think it is going somewhere in the R50k mark. Seller upgraded to 914. 582 with 300 hours is pretty much on the rebuild if one adheres to the manufacturers spec. Will cost ab...

Ajajay Skybound!!   Let me explain! If my normal cruising speed in a headwind is 70km/h, with the fairing it's now 65km/h. And with a tailwind normal is 100km/h it's now 110km/h!!!! Hope this explains it better!! :D :D I am missing you somewhere. Not sure what you are referring to a...

Or maybe easier to complete your PPL and fly the micro on your PPL.

On my trike, it flys a bit slower in a headwind but flys faster than normal with a tailwind. In a headwind I pull the bar in about 2" to balance my speed, so it's not a problem. That has no bearing on fitting a fairing. All trikes (and all airborne aircraft) have a slower groundspeed in headwind, a...

When speaking to Rob Hill at our wings dinner, he indicated that MISASA had 'given up' trying to patrol the instructor ratings and are now leaving it completely up to CAA. Was taking too much time and effort and they were never really able to get it right as far as ensuring all applications came via...

I think there is confusion regarding the portable station. If it can transmit is must have a licence - finished. It will be in one of the ICASA acts somewhere (not CAA). The confusion I think was created when CAA gave us exemption from withholding our ATF if we could not produce a radio licence. It ...

Interesting comparison.

Other than the Savanah having a slightly bigger wing, it seems to outperform the 701.

Think I 'll have to twist an arm to take me for a flight next time I am in ELN.

DH, you are not alone. I think when living in SA you have to accept certain things, like that the soft, traceable targets will always be first on the 'crime prevention' list, whilst the more serious crimes go largely unpunished/unpoliced. I wasn't born here, but I still think we have things go...

Don't any of you guys have panier bags? The A5 size flight folio that Solo Wings provide with a trike, contains all the necessary documentation. If no paniers you can even stuff an A5 size book down your shirt, or find somewhere to put in your seat pocket/seat cover. I think that there may be a misc...
