Creaky Hangblock
Since I have had my Cobra, the hangblock (Nylon Bush) has always been very noisy and creaky when moving the wing. This noise conducts directly into any video recordings I make while flying which is very annoying. My inclination is to lubricate the hangblock area and nylon bushes with some type of wa...

Re: GOOD QUALITY HELMET CAMS
I've just spent the weekend with my new GoPro HD Hero. I've had it on my bicycle and my motor bike and the results are fantastic. There are numerous mount options, including a tripod adapter which will let you use standard RAM mount accessories. My next mission is to get it working on my Trike. I've...

Re: Aerotrike Cobra high speed roll instability, problem fou
On inspection, we found that the brass bush at the top of the pylon tube is worn, such that the wing is forced to sit skew as described earlier. Thanks for the suggestion to check this too. One email to Rainbow, had Walter and Mike sending me the correct replacement parts which I received a day late...

Renewing an expired MPL
I have just renewed my previously expired MPL, (after 3.5 years). Willem and the ladies at RAASA were very helpful in guiding my back to my now current NPL with Weight shift trike rating. When in doubt, ask Willem. This has been a very painless exercise. All I had to do was: New class 4 medical Lear...

Re: Aerotrike Cobra high speed roll instability
Having now had some conversations with Jenya, who I have come to learn is one of the true experts in the flex wing industry, my faith has been restored. Jenya has been very helpful and his depth of knowledge, which he is willing to share, will surely win the day. I will keep this thread up to date w...

Re: Aerotrike Cobra high speed roll instability
Thanks again for the interest and responses. This is a good way to learn about what really makes a trike tick. It's not as simple as it may first appear :) For those of you that have Aerotrike Cobra's with 582 Rotax and full fairings, do you notice a distinct engine offset to the right and a thrust ...

Re: Aerotrike Cobra high speed roll instability
I went flying again this morning in very calm conditions and found the following: The undercarriage is not aligned straight with the wing. It aims to the left relative to the wing by quite a few degrees. Is this normal? This would explain why the pod flies to one side when the airspeed is increased....

Re: Aerotrike Cobra high speed roll instability
Gee, thanks for all these responses. All sound good to me. Okay, to narrow it down a little and be more specific. This happens at a constant power setting, but with bar pulled in, so thrust is probably not the cause here. Wing tuning: the wing was pulling right at trim speed. I added a little reflex...

Aerotrike Cobra high speed roll instability
After having owned a Windlass trike, I am finding some significant differences in behavior with my Cobra. In particular, if I pull the bar in to increase speed (above 65 mph), she tends to want to turn one way, then if I correct the turn, she swings to the other side. It's as if the pod is also Flyi...

Re: 2-Stroke Oil, Best place to buy in Cape Town?
Thanks for all the replies. I took Grumpy and Gannet's advice and went to SOS Oils and got great service and a good price too. They delivered the oil to my door, which cost me nothing, and I only paid R44/L. ## ## I decided to take the Total Super Outboard oil (TC-W3), after inspecting all the data ...

Re: The great "Balls to the Wall" Challange, GT450 vs Whirlw
Having had a scary moment once, when following another trike at low level, I suspect that there may be another factor in this equation: Ground Effect . If you are flying on the "back of the drag vs speed" curve, i.e. slow and low, the amount of "wake turbulence" or "vortex" is much more significant ...

2-Stroke Oil trends in Cape Town?
Thanks for the feedback so far :) I had a feeling that this might spark the debate again  Sorry about that, it is really not my intention. I'm really just trying to get an idea of what the latest trend is and what it all costs. Maybe I should re-phrase my enquiry: For the 582 owners in Cape To...

Re: The great "Balls to the Wall" Challange, GT450 vs Whirlw
Hi All As a complete "Nube" to this forum, I don't profess to have any expertise about flying or the legalities of bringing a new craft to the market. However, having read the accident report, I can say that one very valuable lesson I have learnt, (which has not been mentioned) is not to do a 360 de...

2-Stroke Oil, Best place to buy in Cape Town?
My trike (Rotax 582) has been living on "Engen Super Outboard Plus" 2-stroke (TC-3W) oil in pre-mix form until now. If I am to keep it on the same diet, where in Cape Town is the best place to buy this oil and what should I expect to pay per 500ml bottle. I paid R29/bottle at the local Engen garage,...

Cape Town Airspaces
While doing a google search on Cape Town Airspaces, I came across this link: capetownflyingclub.co.za/GoogleEarth%20Cape%20Airspaces.kmz (Save the .kmz file on your PC, then open it in Google Earth) It shows all of the Cape Town airspaces in Google Earth in 3D, which I thought might be quite usefull...
