Re: Electraflyer

I am an electrical engineer and the one thing that scares me, apart from the fact that electrical planes don't have much range (they are really motorised gliders), is the question of battery life. When the figures for battery cycles are quoted, these are really theoretical. Reality will be much shor...

Re: NEW ENGINE

Hi Boet,

Looks like a very interesting engine! Could not get the http://www.revtech.au site to work, though.

Carb Icing on Rotax 503?

I had an incident on a flight today which I think might be carb icing. The temperature was about 8 deg C and the cloud levels were low, at times 300-400 ft. On approaching Microland and turning finals to land for the Saturday breakfast, the engine spluttered and lost nearly all power. I had been usi...

Re: Operating 503 Trikes on the highveld

Hi Morph, Thanks for the reply. I think the problem is more one of interpretation or judgement. For instance, if I use the density/altitude calculator, 20 deg equates to a density/altitude of 7450 ft, 25 deg to 8000 ft, 30 deg to 8534 ft. This is for an altitude of 5400ft. So, roughly speaking, the ...

Operating 503 Trikes on the highveld

I have experienced problems with 503 trikes on the highveld, when operating with 2 sizable types on board (90 kg), and during warm conditions. Aiden at Solowings has confirmed the problem, and recommended 582 power for these conditions. Typically what happens is that, after takeoff with the bar full...

"Short Block"582

What is a "short block" 582? Are there "long blocks"? Obviously this refers to types of Rotax 582's.

Cheers,
