Re: That game of darts...
Here is a thought experiment which may help to visualise the situation. If you put the rotor blade in the fore and aft position, in line with the flight path, and move the cyclic fore and aft whilst holding the blade fixed you have no effect on the airframe. The blade simply teeters. There is thus n...

Re: Hermanus Whale Flight...
Jean, I am most distressed at your labelling my strip as dodgy! It is at least 275m long and the trees are another 150 m away. Too tight for a two up take-off, but doable one up in the right conditions. Learjet and Gyronaught have been in and out once, but they don't seem to respond to invitations a...

Re: CAA Certification on the UFO Gyro
Hi Pierre, my Rotax 914 runs at around 780 degrees, so not that much lower than tour Subaru.

Re: CAA Certification on the UFO Gyro
It is a bit complicated, there is no direct way of getting to thrust from power unless you know the airspeed as far as I can see. Power equals thrust multiplied by airspeed. Obviously to know the airspeed you need a lot more information about the configuration than torque and/or shaft horsepower. By...

Re: CAA Certification on the UFO Gyro
Hi Darren, I'm going to try and keep this very simple, they get, like hot hey? vhpy Of course, the more complicated answer is that the electrons in the outer valence positions of the metal are excited into a higher quantum energy state. When they fall back to a lower quantum energy state they emit a...

Oops, only noticed this now! Thanks for all the wishes guys.
Every now and then one pulls off a greaser of a landing, normally you have to pat yourself on the back as you are the only witness. On Friday I just got lucky!

Re: Gyros burning after impact?
Thanks for the information Dave, do you know if the tanks will be able to be retro fitted to an existing M16? I imagine it will be quite a major undertaking, but well worth it in my opinion. In the meantime I will be investing in a Nomex flight suit and will always wear it when I fly. I don't know i...
