Re: Props on Jabiru engines
James, Your Zenair is looking great! (^^) A comment though on vortex generators: I spent quite some time flying with Rob Hayes, ZU-CBM, before he sold it. It had such good low speed manners as is, (without vortex generators) that I think you'd be making a mistake fitting them - for a few reasons: 1 ...

Prop Balancing
If friction holds the prop in place and not the prop bolts, howcome my Jabiru has bushes that go halfway into the bolt holes? Here, the prop isn't gonna move one mm.

Jabiru and Avgas\Mogas
I have only run my Jab on Avgas. I think to use anything else is asking for trouble. It was designed to run on Avgas so why mess with the thing??

Fuel Consumption
I have a Jabiru with an 80hp motor. Recently installed "Economy kit" and I get 10,5 L/h at 95kts and 2950rpm.60 L tank lets me really go places! Will see if spats make any difference to cruise speed.

Jabiru economy kit
Here is the 'low down.' I installed the kit myself, no rocket science at all.Took me one hour from start to finish.I'm not a mechanic but know the sharp end from the handle end of a screwdriver.....!! Kit consists of a new needle (totally different taper!) new needle jet, main jet and idle air jet.T...

I have done about 17hrs with this kit installed and 10,5 L/Hr at 95kts(2950rpm) all temps and pressures are perfectly normal.Installed a EGT to be safe.720Deg.C at cruise and 630Deg.C at full power, perfect!

Good show! By now, you probably have done a couple more hours and almost ready for your flight test. Always be thinking...."if the donkey dies, where will I go...." do that and you'll have a lot more confidence in your flying.

Leaky Fuel drums
Although this topic is now going off on a tangent, I may as well add my 2c worth before the moderator steps in.... I find a much better alternative to a 'jiggle pipe.'Cut a 60mm round piece of 10mm rubber, pass through a 1m plastic pipe of about 20mm and another thinner pipe of say 5mm x 300mm.Slide ...

Leaky Fuel drums
My Jabbie in fact sips avgas at 11 Litres per hour!! Since it is my newly acquired toy, I'm flying it quite a bit (kid-in-a-candystore-syndrome!!) till I settle down to some sort of flying pattern. I fly on average 15hrs/month so 200L (8 x 25L drums) last me a bit over a month.I get avgas at a speci...

Yes, the cabriolet is a convertible but with 8 x 25 L drums, you have to have the top up to make enough space in the boot. 8 x 25L drums fit so snugly there, you needn't tie them down....

Leaking Fuel drums
A friend of mine owns a chemical company and he gave me a few 25L plastic drums. They are rectangular and thick white plastic. The caps are also beefy with a serious rubber seal under the lip. I have seen these drums all over Durban so they are quite common. Why I like them so much is that I have be...
