Re: Posible Storage ideas for Aquilla?

Alan The way we always tie down is to make the wing absolutely level or just slightlynose down. Alowing the wing to generate lift in a downward direction is also a bad thing - the trike needs to have as little wind resistance as possible. The easiest way to do this is to make 2 ropes which each loop...

Re: Posible Storage ideas for Aquilla?

Hi Alan We have launched a couple of 'Epics' from Grahamstown, including a trip to the pans in the Kalahari routing back via the west coast, and recently to Sodwana. We mostly fly trikes. Although not experts, here are some tips we have learned: Try to take your seat with you - you never know when s...

Re: This gives new meaning to "International Airstrip"!

I think that "Head-Hunting" in PNG has a different meaning! Another good reason to wear a helmet?

I have a friend who headed up the MAF operation there. Most of the strips are like that, but aircraft save days of walking, often with just a 20min flight. Most places are inaccessable any other way.

Looking for 53.4mm Diameter Lower boom tube

Hi all I have an Aerotrike Spirit II with a bent and twisted lower boom tube - the result of taxying on very rough ground when I landed to help the the pilot who crashed near Ozone on the Wild Coast. Aerotrike says that they do not carry spares for that model anymore and I am wondering if there is a...

Re: Microlight wing "snaps" during takeoff

Hi Gert Something which I have had happen to me on an Aquilla is where the top surface of the wing hooks up on (and then pops loose from) the 2 plastic guides for the spreader bar tension strings on the bottom of the kingpost. This would explain the keel pocket tightening up as well. When it happens...

Re: Morning Glory Cloud

Look how quickly these threads degenerate and stray from the topic, but no surprise. From Mammoths to Mammaries .. and yet no chirp about Morning Glories.

Great cloud pics, though, and now that I have my copy of 'Understanding the Sky' I have a better understanding of what I am looking at.

Re: when is it ok to use the fbomb ?

Start of the movie "Always" about firefighters, so probably CGI. I don't think that you would hear the birds tweeting over the sound of the engines, but a good laugh all the same

Re: Eurocopter X3 Hybrid

Very Slick!

The torque compensation obviously handled by the wing-mounted props - very elegant and out-of-the-box thinking. I wonder if the main rotor powers down to autorotate in high speed flight - finally a gyro that takes off vertically!

Re: Anyone know where I can try on a Sonex for Size?

Larry & Sharon are currently on a Trans-Africa/Europe motorcycle tour and not in Grahamstown, but he still owns the Waiex. They have just got to Austria. Their son, Ralph is an instructor at 43 Air School, and flys it occasionally to keep it oiled while Larry is away. It is possible that some flying...

Re: Check this Nutter

There are lots of urban legends about South African pilots who loop trikes and I have always wondered how you keep positive G over the top. This guy seems to have no trouble, and also seems to be able to power out of a hammer stall. It looks like he is running a 503, but if it is, I suspect it is pr...
