Re: Jab engine in trike

Yeah, that makes sense. The overheating tended to happen on the ground, during taxi or while the aicraft was standing still.

The solution will be one to watch. For me it would transform the idea of microlighting - that two-stroke shriek is real turn off for me.

Re: Jab engine in trike

I was told once that Jabi engines tend to overheat when mounted in pusher configuration which is why you don't see too many of them mounted on trikes. Any truth in this? The cost alone of a Jabi engine over a Rotax would seem to make it a more logical choice, never mind the more pleasant, friendlier...

We'll probably go, me, girlfriend and the felines, but only for safety. If there is a dramatic change in the security situation, great, we'll stay. The engines are not aircraft engines. Full stop. So the 300-hour rule is perhaps the thin edge of the wedge. Win a concession to 450 hours, if lucky. How soon, then, before CAA outlaws the use of all Rotax engines in aircraft because it says on the box "Not For Aircraft Use"? BTW, is the 912 desgin...

Not a blind eye. If the aircraft was certified and/or carried passengers for gain then absolutely, expect very strict controls from CAA. In the case of experimental, the rest of the world's CAA/FAA allow for the owner's discretion and self maintenance. Our authority to fly specifies that we cannot ...

Don't point the finger at local Rotax agent, (He is trying to resolve it, it would be short sighted of him not to, short term gain vs long term business. He now has to find (non paying) hours in his day to sort this nonses out) This is clearly at the foot of CAA who had changed the rules, amendment...

Is there any clear indication whether the Rotax 618 fits into this? If it was originally designed as a jetski engine then maybe it is exempt?

Thanks

Flying schools, Redcat needs help

Hi guys, Well, the hour cometh. I am about ready to dedicate my full attention to flying again. I am looking for flying schools in the Joburg area who teach both trike and 3-axis. I would also like to try out the following aircraft, and in a training environment: Cubby Savannah Cheetah Basic 4000 MX...

Oom Agent,

Do you have any pics of the site and the surrounding terrain? Is it pretty?

As towns go, Malmesbury is not the ugliest I've ever seen either :D

Thanks

Ja, went flying in a Falke at Potch this weekend. Syndicate-owned aerie so she gets flown every weekend by both syndicate members and glider pilots wanting to hone skills. Later, took a walk across to the glider hangers where I found a sad, neglected Super Dimona motorglider, thick with dust and cab...

Henni,

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I'm in Jo'burg and it seems no-one knows what an MXII is up here, let alone a Skyfox. "Skyfox?Whaddat?"

Did you buy the Morningstar Mizer?

Anyway, to you and C205, well done on your new wings. Happy, safe flying, folks.

Do you think we, us modern folk, are just to risk averse? it is highly recommended to have a 4x4 with all the latest gizmos, offroad trailer, backup vehicles, etc etc, and before you set off, make sure you attended an "Offroad driving course" and insured your rig in case that something happend. BMW power for microlights?

Howzit, A while back there was acomment that some guys in the Cape fly their Voyageur trikes with BMW motorbike engines. What are the advantages (if any) of using a BMW bike engine? And if it is cheaper, how much cheaper compared to, say, a Rotax 912 or similar? I see also that Cubby offer BMW power...

Hey guys, Have been following this thread with a lot of interest.Since I will soon be in the market for an aerie (second-hand), is there anyone who would be willing to educate me on the pros and cons of the following: T'Bird MXII Skyfox Mizer I'd like to be able to do the odd cross-country, but righ...
